Everyone says this, but no one ever says WHY. What does Texas gain from going Independent that they can't have in a non-revenue share Big 12?
I've asked this question 100 times, and not once has anyone given a rational answer.

Am I the only one that didn't like the tone of this report when mentioning KU was talking to the Big East? It sounds like they are trying to undercut us and it is "every school for themselves" type of deal going on again.

2) Texas leaves and we go with KSU, KU, and Mizzou to the Big East.
I'm fine with either.
This is what I don't want. There needs to be revenue sharing, Texas won't go for it though.

I think as long as everyone has access to TV, revenue sharing isn't a big deal. I think equal revenue sharing is going to pass.
You think Ohio State is going to want to fund Purdue forever? I doubt it.

Even Bill Self said yesterday that all the "North" schools would stay together, I doubt they branch off without others, why would you want to be sitting in the Midwest alone?

Texas gets $15 Million for non revenue sports. Imagine what they would get for their football. This would be similar to Notre Dame with NBC. They would have an over the air station all to themselves. Fox or ABC would sign a deal to televise all their games. They would reap at least double the $15 from basketball and football so you are looking at about $45 million in my estimation. They would need that amount to offset not making a bowl every few years. When they do make a bowl they would get the payout and not have to split a portion with the conference. Maybe I am way off but they have a lot of cash to be made by going independent.
We will see what ESPN has up their sleeve with the BCS, Big 12 and Texas contracts.

They can make all that $ by staying in the Big 12. They don't have to share it. Again, my question remains unanswered.
Re: Texas/ESPN and KU talking to the Big East
Either I am brain dead or Al is spot on. Texas has nothing to gain by going independent or leaving the Big 12 for another conference. They have no conference restrictions as it is. They have the best of both worlds. Splitting a bowl payout is not a big deal. Remember, they get a split of everyone else's bowl. Texas is not necessarily in the bowl with the big payout.
All this concern with the Big 12 not being stable is wacko. The Texas regents will keep the other state schools in the Big 12. No one else has has anything that a better conference wants. Missouri has proved my point by shopping around and not landing an offer that would improve their lot financially.
Re: Texas/ESPN and KU talking to the Big East
There is NO MONEY in the Big East
Re: Texas/ESPN and KU talking to the Big East
This could be interesting... just for ***** and giggles let's see what would happen if we got in the Big East.
Right now (counting TCU) there are 17 schools in the conference, and 9 of them playing football. Throw in us, KSU, Kansas, and Mizzou, and those numbers go to 21 and 13. With Villanova moving up to play football, two seven-team divisions could be formed a la the MAC for football. And seeing the possible West/East split that was proposed, seems like ISU would be in pretty good shape there.
21 members for basketball is pushing it... that's a massive conference! But the new-look Big East uses their leverage to sign a ridiculously massive television contract promising 20 conference games for each of its members. With 10 conference games at Hilton every season against top quality opponents, the energy surrounding the basketball program would grow immensely.
Would be interesting!

So you read that more as KU being an ambassador of sorts for the north? I guess I really didn't see it that way...from all the events over the summer it is "trust no one".

I'm glad I'm not the only one who isn't getting up in the inane babble of the shock jocks.

I would imagine that there is still room there for the Big East to expand if the four schools were open to it.
Don't tell Chris and matty this. according to them the big east thing was just a rumor and was far from happening
Re: Texas/ESPN and KU talking to the Big East
Right now, the money in the Big 12 is better for Iowa State. The travel expenses are less as well. JPs number one job is to keep Iowa State athletics financially solvent. The Big East was an unknown. If it was the only option, so be it. But with the Big 12, it was money in hand. If a better deal comes along, I assume we would look. But a 12 or 16 team Big East would need a massive TV deal to come up with the dollars to match what we expect to have.
The key is for Iowa State to build a winning program in both football and basketball. Then we will have more choices.

Back in June when Texas stayed in the Big 12, ISU KU KSU Missouri and Baylor met in Kansas City to form a contingency plan. These schools have binded themselves together from what I have read after this meeting.
