Re: Big 12 Considers Name Change
What about "The Conference of the United States"? That way it won't limit us to any geographical part of the country or the amount of teams in the conference. -

Nothing against GSD&M, a very successful large Ad Agency, however they are based in the heart of Texas country literally, Austin Texas....I wonder if our logo will be burnt orange?

It’s a safe assumption that if a move were made to remove the “12″ that the conference would be less likely to expand in the near future as changing the brand would be a permanent change." I hope they do change the name if we aren't expanding back to 12. I think the Big 12 name kind of makes the conference look weak since everyone will see it and remember that we lost two teams. I kind of like the name The Central Conference since Mid American and Heartland are already taken, Southwest Conference feels wrong, and Midwest Conference (MWC) is to similar to the Mountain West Conference (MWC). Anyone got any other serious suggestions? Re: Big 12 Considers Name Change
I do rather like the "Dr. Pepper" conference. :-). Along those lines, perhaps the "Show me the Money" conference?

If we eventually got conferences, logically we could do 'Cruise' and 'Scientology' or something along those lines...

The Red River Valley Conference, because we all know where our bread is buttered. -
Re: Big 12 Considers Name Change
I think the geographical names are limiting and act to make the conference look weaker/smaller. The numeric names have obvious problems with any changing constituency.
I'd suggest changing every word in the name from the defining descriptor to changing from "conference" to "league" or "association". Something like "Champions League" is a little bit much for me but closer to what I'm thinking.
