Beebe Doesn't Anticipate Big 12 Changing Name
VISIONS Magazine Winter 2011 : Sports
So the name of the conference might change?
I think we need to be open to it, but I think there’s a high degree of favor for continuing the name. That's good news.

If we get two more schools.
A ten team conference with a Big 12 name is stupid.

Re: Beebe Doesn't Anticipate Big 12 Changing Name
According to everything I've read, we aren't getting two more schools. I agree that a 10 team conference called the BigXII is dumb. The B1GT2N and it's "branding" has been around forever. The BigXII was created in 1996. We haven't created THAT much brand identity that a name change would hurt the conference. If anything, I would think a name change would help the publicity of the conference - as long as it was a good one.

I wonder what it would cost to change the name, I'm sure it's a big part of it. Not to mention they are probably already exploring adding more teams.
That being said, I vote for a different name.

Let's be honest, what DOES Dan Beebe "anticipate"?

Re: Beebe Doesn't Anticipate Big 12 Changing Name
Leave the name the way it is. If the conference decides to change the name, they'll pay big money to some consultant, only to get something like the "Legends and Leaders Conference". The grass isn't always greener...

It is a brand name now. I once used Two Men and a Truck for moving purposes and there were three guys who showed up to do the work. Should they change their name?

Just call it the Flyover Conference and be done with it.

Re: Beebe Doesn't Anticipate Big 12 Changing Name
I read this article in Visions earlier this week. FWIW, the interview took place the day of the Northern Illinois game when he was in Ames. 4+ months could change a lot even though I don't see the name changing.
Also, Beebe was pretty blunt in the interview that Iowa State isn't very attractive to anyone and needs Texas to survive.
The campaign starts now. November 6, 2012. -
