acgclone has it right. We knew the Big 12 was down but all we heard was how powerful the Big 10 was this year. Their conference co-champ got destroyed and Illinois was their only convincing win that didn't need some huge breaks. Missouri and K-State gave away their bowl games so to try to argue that either conference was better than the other this year is pointless. Both had bad bowl seasons, it's just unusual for the Big 12 and normal for the Big 10.

Re: Big 12 3-5 In Bowl Games
Big Ten had a slightly better bowl season than Big 12, unless you count Nebraska as Big Ten then you'd have to call it a draw.
The thing is we all knew the Big 12 was as down as it's been since creation and the Big Ten fans were buying the smoke and mirrors that an 11-1 Michigan State team was for real. College football owes sincere thanks to Iowa for keeping an MSU poser out of the title game discussion.
Reality = Big Ten in a good year is still not much better than the Big 12 in a down year.
Basketball going forward, Big 12 is the best conference in the nation easily. It's already usually 2nd-4th. Now we eliminate the two programs who are easily the worst throughout their history and lose none of the others. Big 12 basketball RPIs are going to absolutely skyrocket next year. I live in Chicago, somehow we have 3 Big East teams in our market now. DePaul has totally sucked for a long time. There is no DePaul in the new Big 12, there is DePaul in the Big East. new B12 = #1 in hoops, it's not even close

Other than Illinois, Ohio State wouldntve won if Arkansas had just run in that blocked punt (or if theyd had to play without the players that SHOULD have been suspended for their bowl game) and Iowa got a huge break from the refs to give them the game vs Mizzou (catch or not, there was not indisputable evidence to overturn the call).
We've known all year the big 12 was way down. The fact that in a down year we still did as well as the big 10 is a positive for the big 12.

No one outside of some MSU homers actually thought MSU was as good as their 11-1 record. They played 2 good teams all year. They caught Wisconsin before Wiscy was clicking on all cylinders, and Iowa absolutely obliterated them. I am just glad next year with the championship game that a team like MSU will not be able to waltz their way into a big game and get embarrassed.

How do you figure that? Lets say this year Wisconsin and Ohio State played in the Championship game. The loser would have had 2 losses and Michigan State probably moves UP a notch and plays in a BCS game.

See Kansas in 2007.

alarson- Arkansas also dropped 5 passes that were right in their laps, one and possibly two for touchdowns. Ohio State and Iowa were very fortunate to win their games.

That KSU foul on the last TD was garbage.

According to everybody in the Big 12 vs. Big Ten basketball thread, the only thing that matters is head-to-head matchups, which favors the Big Ten.
Therefore, Big Ten = better conference this year.
