Question: Why no Baseball team?

How many womens scholarships would ISU have to add to have scholarships for a baseball team? Its not just the money for the baseball team, its the money for the teams that title IX says must exist in order for the baseball team to exist.

Also because football takes so many male scholarships.

*Had to play 25 road games to start the season b/c of climate.
*Players outnumbered fans most of the time.
*Those that did go got in free -- no admission charge.
*No lights or locker rooms at the facility. They might have had an actual restroom, though.
*Typically finished near the bottom of the league.
*Added up to be a huge financial drain.

All of the above is about right and I will ad an athletic director and athletic dept that had NO interest in baseball whatsoever...

It boils down to No Money and a Lousy Climate adds up to a situation where baseball is not only unrealistic at ISU, but a huge financial drain when you dont even have money to finish the freaking football stadium that was built in 1973/74....

Here's a question: If you add baseball what men's program are you gonna drop??

Baseball is the one sport at ISU that everyone wants back. Yet nobody will still go. Still dont know why anyone would want to waste our money on baseball when nobody goes to the games and supports it. I think it's a waste of money.

I agree with your last sentence. So to me it would seem the Athletic Director (BVDV) made the correct executive decision - it wasn't a matter of "no interest in baseball"

It was dropped for budgetary reasons by the previous AD. I have heard Pollard say publicly he would like to bring it back, there are boosters willing to endow the scholarships, it's just a matter of finding the operating money in the budget. ISU's not alone in dropping it for the budget, Northern Iowa had a moderately successful baseball program and they had to drop their program last year.

This is exactly it, everyone likes the idea of ISU having a baseball team, but the reality is nobody ever went to games. It was nice to read the score on the back page of the Daily, but that was the extent anyone gave any attention to it. About as many people went to baseball games as went to men's swimming.

There should be a FAQ for ISU for people to click on, which would include the reason why we don't a baseball team, and men's hockey isn't Division I.

This. I went to a few games when I was in school and there was nobody there. People are all up in arms that we don't have a baseball team...you didn't go when we had one!!! It would be a waste of time and money to try and bring it back
