A&M reportedly in talks for own network...
So that makes Texas, Oklahoma and now A&M.

Re: A&M reportedly in talks for own network...
If someone like ISU wanted to run a network - but keep the costs down (run it over the internet or such), could they? While making a profit? May be worth a shot. I'm not sure what I'd pay to assure that I could see all ISU games on some sort of media - but it would be nice.

I still think that we should pursue a forgotten 5-baylor network.
Mizzou, KU, KSU and ISU. I think that you could get plenty of programming year round on that.

A&M Board of Regents is meeting today.
Authorization for the president of Texas A&M University to enter into negotiations for and execute an agreement for future telecast rights in the Big 12 Conference.

Pay $9 or whatever and watch pretty much any ISU athletic event at Hilton that isn't already televised, plus replays, coaches' shows, interviews, press conferences, etc?

O/U on the first person to comment on this being the destruction of the B12 is set at 20 minutes.

Re: A&M reportedly in talks for own network...
Surely this means that they're going to the SEC. In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection. -
Re: A&M reportedly in talks for own network...
Thank god. Now A&M can have its own network along with Texas and OU and everybody is happy and we can all move on as a conference

I think this is a very good thing for the future of the Big12. Texas' network was a mix because they could have gone independent and kept their network intact. A&M doing it pretty much means that they are not looking at the SEC. A&M to the SEC was, to me, the most likely domino that would have sent this conference into free fall. I guess I see these networks as locking schools into the Big12 rather than separating them further.
That being said, even though the Big12 should be safer to stick around, this won't make it any easier on ISU. The budgets keep getting further apart and we had better hope that the TV deals go through so we can continue to pay our coaches competitive salaries so we don't start losing them after any glimmer of success.

Good for aTm. Perhaps they'll shut the hell up now...
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this. -
Re: A&M reportedly in talks for own network...
I'm confused since we always hear different things on here, but when is or current tv deal over and going to get a "better" one?

You are assuming that these solo networks are all going to be successful. There is no guarantee of that. ESPN isn't going to pay any school not named Texas big money for their 3rd tier and non-revenue athletics rights. These are ventures, they could pay off, or they could be colossal failures. Only time will tell.

Only time will tell. Even if they aren't successful in the long run, it'll at least squelch some of the doomsday talk for a couple of years. These networks will give enough reason to stick around until the next big TV contract is done. Ultimately, the details of that TV contract are what is going to drive the future of this conference. This should assure that the Big12 will at least last until then. If the TV contract doesn't own up to what is expected, then these networks won't matter anyway. If the TV contract delivers, then even if these networks fail it won't matter because the money will be coming from elsewhere.
