Re: This is why Baylor is pathetic...
Baylor's attendance is mostly the other schools fans. That is the sad part. Their attendance figures are severely skewed.

Four of their 7 home games last year were Texas-based teams: TCU, SFA, Rice, and Texas. Oklahoma was also at home for them. Pretty easy to get decent attendance numbers when travel for the opposing team is fairly short and 3 of the Texas-based teams are successful programs.

Re: This is why Baylor is pathetic...
I've noticed on Baylor's board their fans talk about the "Visitor's Side" of the stadium, rather than the "Visitor's Section". I think that says a lot...

I would much rather sit in the upper deck on the side of any stadium than sit behind the endzone to watch a game.

Maybe I had an atypical Baylor experience, but I've had a really good time at every other Big 12 school I visited. Baylor was the lone bad experience. JHC Al, that Baylor dbag in the WRNL comments really got under your skin that you start a trash Baylor thread over here, awesome. That rug really tied the room together, did it not dude?

Admittedly, part of it is wanting to hate a Big 12 school and Baylor being the first school to give me a legitimate reason to dislike them.

Re: This is why Baylor is pathetic...
Admittedly all of us aside from OU and TAMU are living in part thanks to texas to an extent, but Baylor is probably the school that lives most on other schools' fans money in the big 12. Being smack in the middle of the old b12 south, and then bringing in 3 texas schools for the noncon schedule has to do wonders for bringing in visitors to fill seats that are not bought by their own fans, especially when a few of those (UT, TAMU, OU to a lesser extent) have plenty of fans to bring.

Re: This is why Baylor is pathetic...
Not to mention the fact that the only reason they got into the big 12 was because the texas legislature forced it.

Re: This is why Baylor is pathetic...
As a Sooner fan who has been to Waco plenty of time for games. I've never spent more than 15 dollars for a ticket, i never buy through OU.

My understanding is that it was partly the legislature but....
It was Gov Ann Richards who said ... "if Baylor doesnt get into the big 12 none of the texas schools are getting into the big 12"
I remember how excited people in Waco were that Baylor was going to be a member of the big 12....

Yep, she was a Baylor alum.

Re: This is why Baylor is pathetic...
Baylor did get in for political reasons, but they were also the smart choice at the time for the 12th school. We were bigger and or better at football at the time than SMU, TCU, Rice, or Houston. Of course Baylor is known for producing a high amount of lawyers for our size and that led to a lot of political power.
Sorry you didn't have the experience in Waco for your game. We really did lack a tailgate scene until about two years ago when the current administration started supporting a better tailgate scene and it is a bigger event now on all sides of the stadium. Our stadium really is in a bad area of town and a lot of people chose to pregame at George's or Vitek's which they run buses to before games. Drayton McLane sold the Astros for around $600M and it has been rumored that he is giving $200M toward a new stadium (tax write-off) that will be connected to our campus. The plan is to make a stadium that seats 40-45K (currently 50K) and make it expandable so that we can have the option to grow as Baylor grows while keeping out Longhorn, Sooners and Ags out now.
We still bring in decent attendance when we have a solid on the field product without help from other schools. 41,000 vs Buffalo, 40,000 vs Kansas State, 43,000 vs Sam Houston State, and 41,000 vs UConn the past two years. We could do better no doubt, but I doubt we see a huge rise unless we build a new stadium or become a top 15 team.

One on one, I've never met a Baylor grad I didn't like. But as a group, Baylorites are like an extra fruity episode of Glee. If you don't have jazz-hands, they won't talk to you. Put another way, if asked to describe Baylorites, more Texans would use the word "gay" than "privileged."
