Re: Preseason All Big 12 team
Eighteen Texans (based on high school) between the offensive and defensive teams. Just insane.

Re: Preseason All Big 12 team
Bryce Brown was named first team without ever playing a down in the B12. Cute.

Re: Preseason All Big 12 team

Kinda reminds me of a certain basketball player who was named pre-season All American without........ah, you get the picture.
"Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion man" -
Re: Preseason All Big 12 team
How many times will OSU actually punt? Can their punter get enough action to really "qualify" as a choice?

I wonder what the ratio of population (Texas/All Big 12 states) versus representation on the first team preseason all big 12 is?
18/26*100 = 75% Texas rep on 1st Team B12
(edit: oops - they have 12 players on the first team offense so the numbers should be: 18/27*100 = 67%)
Using data from Wikipedia:
Texas pop: 25.1 million
Oklahoma 3.7m
Kansas 2.8m
Missouri 6.0m
Iowa 3.0m
(Texas pop)/(Big 12 pop) = 25.1m/40.6m*100 = 62%
So we should expect to see 62%, and observed is 67%. That's seems reasonable. I thought there would be a higher representation from Texas due to the culture that starts kids playing tackle football at a young age.

Re: Preseason All Big 12 team
What?!? No Nebraska or Colorado? “I told you, I don’t care if you’re black or white. I don’t care if you’re rich or poor. I don’t care where you come from, whether it’s Texas, Florida, California, or right here in the state of Iowa, I don’t care about any of that… But what I did care about is moving forward from that day on, that we were one team." -Paul Rhoads -

A problem with my numbers here is that I'm sure there are kids from states outside the 5 states of the Big12 that made the 1st team. Need some ISU statistic help - does that invalidate my work?
