ISU Wins More in B12 minus A&M
Let's step back and take a deep breath and actually analyze the situation calmly and rationally.
All indications are that A&M is gone and the B12 is likely to stick as it is still the best overall situation for OU and TU at least for now.
ISU typically lost to A&M. They might get replaced by UH. That goes in ISU's favor in all sports, right?
If it stays at 9, that goes in ISU's favor as well, right?
During whatever time period the 9 team league lasts, ISU continues to improve facilities and competitiveness. That goes in ISU's favor, right? In fact, the biggest self inflicted wound in ISU's history is the neglect of all sports until recently and nothing lights a fire of urgency to change than an actual fire, right?
Lastly, ISU is most likely going to be in someone's final BCS conference realignment scenario, even if they're the last to be "picked" if B12 dissolves. That will mean more money and hopefully finally some stability, even if it means new conference teams and rivalries. Overall, that's at least a wash but probably good long term.
So pop some popcorn and enjoy the show. It'll have some sort of happy ending even though it's a horror flick.

Re: ISU Wins More in B12 minus A&M
A&M by itself doesn't worry me. I'm more worried about this continuing. Everyone is uneasy about the Big12 right now and rightfully so. I could easily see talks with another team pop up within the next few months if not sooner and these rumors continue.

Re: ISU Wins More in B12 minus A&M
I agree that A&M departure might not be all bad assuming the conference holds together at least for a few years. Our football is on the rise (especialy with another non-con) and a couple of back to back bowls would improve our bargaining position. Shortly, we may have MBB and WBB in the sweet 16, a bowl bound football team, top 10 VB, gymnastics, track and CC and a top 20-30 Directors' Cup athletic program. If four 16 team power conferences is the endgame, we certainly belong in that top 64.
“We’ve got a pretty good football conference, and we’ve got a pretty good conference overall. We’re still walking around with our heads held high and our chest out, about that.” Paul Rhoads -

You could improve all your sports and you still wouldn't have a National Presence. Your location only fits into one of the future superconferences and that conference already has the state of Iowa. The best thing is for the Big 12 to weather this storm and then pick up some schools. If OU decides to bolt and that starts the 4 superconferences then ISU, KU and K-State are in big trouble because they all have tiny little football stadiums in a tiny state and it doesn't really matter how good some of their sports have been.

Getting back to an 8 game conference schedule definitely isn't a bad thing. I don't think that ISU is in a terrible position.

That's the problem though, we can only afford to lose A&M. We cannot afford to lose another team IMO. I'm worried that OU is getting nervous and is looking elsewhere? That would be disastrous.
