Like Ball State going 12-0, ranked #22, and going to the GMAC bowl... Where they proceeded to get stomped by Tulsa 45-13.

It's obviously BS, but it just shows you the perception that people have. Most of the fans realize ISU is above MAC level, but for whatever reason schools like Minnesota and Indiana are seen as better than us.

If you consider teams that were in the Big East at the time of the game, yes.

Big East football has only been around since 1991.

Ah, that's why. Cool. I wasn't thinking about the history of the conference.

If you want to go by our record against current Big East teams:

    Connecticut: 0-1 (2002)
    Pittsburgh: 1-0 (2000)
    Syracuse: 0-1-1 (1957 & 1969)

    Overall: 1-2-1

Wow, even with those additions, I am surprised we haven't played more of them.

Yes, it certainly appears we are MAC level... In fact, just to throw another interesting tidbit out there: Our historical records against conferences show that our 84% winning percentage against the MAC is the second highest against any conference, the first, the Big East where we are 1-0 (Pittsburgh in 2000).
Also, 2 of those 4 loses were under Chizik his first year.

You can even add teams that were in the Big East at any point (Boston College, 0-1) or participate in other sports in the Big East (Villanova, 0-2) and still not have a long list.

Heck, even when NIU was having a great season last year nobody seemed to remember that we stomped them by several touchdowns.

We have a huge image problem. As you pointed out, nobody is going aroudn suggesting that Minnesota and Indiana and other lower tier BCS schools should be demoted. It's really only ISU, Baylor, and (to a lesser extent) K-State that get no love.

To be honest, I blame it a lot of the Chizik years as much as historical records, they are so fresh in everyone's memory and we were really, really, really bad.

No way I'm ******* sharing being in the same conference as UNI.

Their seating capacity barely meets FBS requirements.

Im guessing it's that they are the dominant schools in their state, while we have a historically good D1 school in ours besides us

A few records facts when comparing those teams and us:

    ISU vs Baylor: 5-4
    ISU vs K-State: 49-41

We've never played Indiana and the Minnesota record is not pretty from the days we played in the early 1900s.

Definitely true for UM, but not for IU.

Purdue really hasn't been that great recently in football, if that's who you are reffering to.
