If we go to a lesser conference it will be harder to recruit because the majority of kids want to play for a big super conference.

No way he stays at ISU if we were demoted to a lesser league.

You'd think we'd still have a two-year or so window to try and establish ourselves as some sort MAC Boise St. equivalent. Not that I ever really want to see it happen, but it would be an interesting scenario to see play out.

Re: ISU on NIU's forum
If ISU is MAC level, then Northern Illinois isn't. What a crap hole town, campus and most of all, football stadium.
-
Re: ISU on NIU's forum
I'd rather they dismantle the athletic program all together then be a part of the MAC.

Re: ISU on NIU's forum
This is ridiculous. Worst case scenario, Iowa State ends up in Conference USA.

Their football stadium reminds me of Valley High School's stadium... only Valley's is more modern and probably has better amenities then what NIU's stadium has. When ISU played there a few years back we had a group of 6 guys that went over for the game... if I remember correctly they set a stadium attendance record that day and it was probably 40% ISU fans in the stadium.

Makes sense. MAC is mostly commuter schools isn't it?

I don't know what else you do in DeKalb other then declaring that you only have about an hour or so left before you're in Chicago.

Our entire coaching staff
Our AD
Anymore football facility upgrades
most of our fans and their money
A non AQ league is not an option for ISU and will not happen.

Re: ISU on NIU's forum
Not to mention ISU absolutely blows every MAC school out of the water when it comes to academics and research. I know none of that matters anymore but it just adds to why don't belong in the MAC.

Don't they see the Big 10 getting their butts handed to them every year in bowl games? The Big 10 routinely gets beat by the MAC, and even D 1A (like UNI). Of course they probably have no idea the Big 10 is 8-17 against The Big 12 the last few years. One thing is for sure though, Iowa State does have an image problem. Need win more consistently I guess. Since 2000 the Big 10 is 117-19 against the MAC, winning about 86% of the time. If losing 14% of the time = "routinely", I guess you're right.
Coincidentally, in that same timeframe the Big 12 is 28-9 against the MAC, winning 75% of the time.
You can't use head-to-head conference records to try to argue one conference being better than the other. By that logic, the Big East is better than the Big 12 since it's 9-6 against Big 12 teams since 2005, and 14-9 since 2000.
