Things are a little rocky at TTech (basketball)

Interesting blog about Gillespie and his relationship with (fmr) Asst Coach Beard:

Gillispie era at Texas Tech isn't going smoothly - CBSSports.com

This is the only part in the piece that I take major issue with:
"So this is what the Red Raiders are faced with: Before the season begins, its coach is already fighting a bad environment within the office, a worse reputation on the recruiting trail and an uphill battle in the whittled-down, weakened Big 12." (This bolded part shows a little stupidity on the writer's part.)

Utah Utes, Illinois Illini. The University of Pennsylvania thought about following this pattern by calling themselves the Pennsylvania Pencils. However, they were afraid their students would start chanting "We're No. 2"

Why? Kansas is going to be down next year, K-State is going to be down. Missouri and A&M lost their coaches, Texas lost a lot, there's a good chance the B12 will be down next year, which is good for us.

I think the original poster was referring to the loss of Nebraska and Colorado, arguably (with Iowa State) the two weakest programs in the conference. Removing those two and increasing the number of games for the rest of the teams ups the difficulty of the conference for sure. But, as you say, remaining teams may have taken some hits in the offseason.

It would be a pleasant surprise if he ended up having a tough time getting Tech going. After reading that, I'm extra glad we didn't pursue him.

    Tech struggles.

I am looking forward to dominate them this year and for years to come under Hoiberg.

He hired Jeff Kidder as an asst to replace the one that left. Didn't he coach at Indian Hills last year?

I get the gist but that is a horribly written article.
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Bingo! We have a winner. I was going to give a similar explanation in my original post (thanks Stumpy), but I didn't want to make the post a long one. I understand perfectly that the Big 12 may be "down" from previous years, but we HAVE to play everyone TWICE now with NO Buffs or Fuskers to count on for at least 3 relatively sure wins. Maybe calling the writer's comment as slightly stupid was too strong - but I certainly didn't think it needed the "McFly" reference. I can handle the ribbing-but some of you could afford to chill out a little. : ) Again, the purpose of my original post was to provide Fanatics with some news concerning a Big 12 opponent. Next time I might have to add the "IMHO" next to my comments to help the "experts" around here know that I am just giving my two cents.
