Congress and Realignment?

Other than the fact Congress can meddle where it likes, exerting pressure if not creating law, what has that august body to do with college realignment?

Oh! . . . The power of the dollar! Federal dollars to higher education. But, politically, it can hardly threaten academic dollars over the issue of college football, can it? Priorities. . . .

Looking for insight over the reach that Congress can have in this process and any related subject matter, such as will Congress establish hearings? Will it do anything (are the pressures strong enough for it to take action of some sort)?

The 501(c)(3) status should be a shot across the bow. At least give these jackhole presidents reason to think twice about chaning conferences without reasons that align with the stated mission of their institutions.
