How much would this cut the athletic budget?

The MWC is actually currently ranked ahead of the Big East in the conference rankings. Boise St. and TCU's strength are the big reasons why, but people need to realize that the Big East is WEAK. Now in no way do I think that ISU will or should consider the MWC as a viable option, it is pretty much on par with the Big East, which would also be terrible IMO.

Huge differences. 1, the MWC is not an AQ conference. The Big East is. 2. The money is also far apart. If you are not in one of these AQ conferences, you become irrelevant with these super conferences becoming a reality.

I dont see anywhere in that article that this situation is even likely.

MWC means good bye to ISU athletics and coaches

ISU: "Thanks but no thanks" This. ISU knows it has better options.

Re: It's good to have a backup plan - MWC!
The Big 12 has a signed deal as an AQ league for 2 more years provided they remain a league. Even in the worst case scenario Iowa State would not join the MWC, but we might use the AQ status and some millions from the exit fees to tear apart what remains of the Big East, the MWC and Conference USA.
But, put my vote in that the Big 12 survives. Just don't ask me who the hell is in it...

Re: It's good to have a backup plan - MWC!
One thing we know is that ISU is the runt of the litter regarding BCS realignment. The most logical conference geographically is the Big10 - we are bordered by Minnesota, Nebraska, Illinois, Wisconsin - maybe throw in Missouri, KU, and KSU as well. The problem we all know, is economics. Why not humbly offer ourselves as "junior partners" to the Big 10 (along with Mo, KU, and KSU)? We only receive 2/3 share of the revenues until we win the conference in FB or MBB. Then we become full partners. Isn't this what we are doing anyway in the Big12? Aren't we facing a big paycut if the Big 12 dissolves? Our best bet is to try to save the Big12 somehow, but we should consider as many backup options as we can.

Read the ******* article. The MWC called Iowa State.
It's hard enough with Hawkeye fans and the media promoting misinformation. How about we don't help them? ******* read.

The Mountain West is still a better option than Conference USA, the MAC or the Sun Belt Conference!
Think about it, if the Big 12 does disband and something happens where ISU doesn't get into the Big East, then the MWC is the next best option. Also, it seems the MWC is more stable than the Big East and will probably become a AQ conference next year with the addition of Boise State and TCU possibly not going to the Big East.
Both the Big East and MWC suck compared to the Big 12 but it is still the lesser of two evils.

We are NOT going to the MWC. Step off the ledge.

Re: It's good to have a backup plan - MWC!
I didn't read the article and I don't know if its quoted in there but I saw a tweet earlier today that said that the commissioner believes that our most likely landing spot if the Big 12 folds is with the merger with the Big East. So to hell with the Register and their poor journalism.
I didn't read the article because the headline is garbage and the Register does nothing for Iowa State athletics.
