I don't know the specific conversation your'e talking about, but it's quite possible the Big 12 is tougher this season but the SEC will be the next 5-6 years for Mizzou.
Once or twice a decade the B12 will be tougher as long as it's centered around Texas and Oklahoma. It's possible the Pac Ten or Big Ten top to bottom might never be tougher than the SEC again the way things are moving. ACC isn't even in the conversation.

isn't this what OU did? So who says they aren't trying to twist Texas some more? I don't think it's a done deal. I think OU passed the baton to MU to finish this thing

But if you combine FB and MBB there is no better conference athletically.

Re: Mizzou Presser
What bugs me most is that now 3/8 of the original Big 8 will be out if they leave (3/7 if you want to go back to Big 7). This is a big rivalry loss in my mind.

First, they ARE genuinely looking into their options....that's a good distance from deciding to leave.
Second, doing as you suggest would remove any and all leverage aimed at forcing UT into some compromises.
Finally, a move to the SEC would gut the Mizzou football program far more than it would damage the Big 12. The Big 12 will simply slide in BYU...and perhaps a few more times and move along. Sure...it will hurt to lose Mizzou...but its something that can be recovered from pretty fast with a few additions. Missouri, in my estimation, will make what is a far better long term decision...and stay...rather than join Vanderbilt and Kentucky in the depths of the SEC. Of course, rationality is not always the driving force in these things...so anything is possible.
Let me add...that if the Big 12 should eventually crumble...Mizzou to the SEC moves ISU up a notch in the B1G pecking order. ONLY AAU schools are going to be considered for the B1G...and that group is getting very small these days...KU and ISU make good sense in terms of joining the B1G. Perhaps throw in ND and one other school if the Irish ever show interest (which is doubtful).

I agree with this. Nebraska and Missouri were the closest things we had to rivals in the Big 12. Now it'll probably end up being K-State.

Actually, OU gave Boren authority to move....Texas Board gave Powers the authority to explore but the board had to give final authority.

Re: Mizzou Presser
I wonder if Missouri is excited to join a conference where only Kentucky and Vanderbilt really get excited about going to watch basketball games and 11 other teams could give a crap about it, including a team that won recent NCs.
I always thought Missouri was a great basketball fanbase. I'm sure they are PUMPED for the road trips to dead empty arenas in Mississippi, Georgia and Alabama instead of playing packed arenas within a six hour drive at KU, KSU, ISU, OU and OSU...soon to be close by Louisville and maybe Cincy too.
I'm sure Mizzou basketball will do fine competitively, but that has to be a kick in the balls if you're a basketball fan or a season ticket holder.

Re: Mizzou Presser
So, why did it take soooooo long for the BOC to come to that conclusion? Seriously, the vote was unanimous.....if you forget about the 5-6 hours of dialogue to get them all to the same point....and you know the last hour of keeping the media and everyone waiting was the armtwisting on those board members that were thinking rationally about their regional interests...

Alot of them think it's probably the most stupid thing Mizzou has done. I don't know of one Mizzou fan that likes this. I'm sure there's some out there, but I don't know why you would.

Re: Mizzou Presser
And que Ken Starr and his legal buddies. The SEC didn't want to deal with aggie's legal problems and now there will be threats for taking Missouri as well. Will the SEC really want Missouri enough to deal with that?

Re: Mizzou Presser
I wish the B12 would step up and put some pressure on MO. Let it be known that if they leave, the B12 bball tournament WILL be moved to another location. Lets see if the locals say something different when they remember that MO has rivals near that travel to games. That is a lot of revenue for MO towns.
Remind them that if it is all about money, not all of it comes from the TV's and what does come from the TV's might not make it to as many businesses as fans on the ground.
