I think the first football game I ever remember watching and actually caring about was us playing them in the Houston Bowl. Tough loss

We are 1-5 against them in basketball.

Kinda unusual, but the TCU fans were rather smug.

Re: Iowa State vs TCU History
I think an interesting comparison is this:
ISU set a record this season with 37,000, with 55,000 capacity (67 percent), following a 5-7 season and zero BCS bowl appearances.
TCU set a record for season-ticket sales at 22,000, with a current seating capacity of 34,000 (64 percent) after winning the Rose Bowl. TCU's stadium is set to expand to 40,000 next season, meaning it'd need a 2,500 ticket increase to stay at the same percentage.
I'm sure ticket sales will skyrocket as an addition to the Big 12, so the percentages will probably change. And yes, having the SWC implode and being kicked into the backyard couldn't have helped matters.
This is not a knock on TCU whatsoever (I think the invitation made sense geographically, if nothing else). But if Realignment Madness blows the conference apart again in the near future, and Iowa State is viewed as a rinky-dink program with a marginal fan base and the argument is "it's all about football success," I want this as Exhibit A.

You should clarify 37,000 season ticket sales.
Each game has sold 56k+ tickets I believe.

Each game has sold 56k+ tickets I believe. I did my search quickly (one link below, Sept. 21) ... I'm not a ticket-sales expert, so i wasn't taking into account how many actual tickets were sold for each game. Iowa State shatters football season ticket record | TheGazette
(I assume the TCU numbers were calculated similarly ... that was via ESPN).

1997-98.....54.....93 I remember the football game in 1995 well. TCU would just run the option outside and run right by us to the end zone. Seems like we were always a few steps behind. I thought the score was much higher for TCU.

I've been to a game at TCU's stadium, while it is old and quaint, it's tailgating and gameday atmosphere are very lame. I was there for senior night late in the season when they were assured of a bowl game, and there was maybe 30,000 there tops. It was odd actually, we showed up about 3 hours before kickoff expecting an atmosphere like in Ames, but there was hardly anybody there!

Re: Iowa State vs TCU History
Here's a link about the stadium renovation that will be finished by the beginning of the 2012 season: TCU announces $105 million renovation of football stadium - ESPN Dallas
$105 million renovation that was funded by only 34 donors!
They are actually lowering seating capacity from 44,358 to 40,000, but they're adding 2,500 in club seating along with a 20,000 square foot club area. The seating is expandable up to 50,000.
Edit:
Looks like they received more donor funding and will have a capacity of 43,000. http://www.star-telegram.com/2011/08...n-stadium.html
$143 million in funding all from donors. Crazy.
