The BEST option would be a highly visible, $10mil stadium that is privately owned, then leased to the University. Let them sell beer and do whatever they want for promotions, let the city use it, and try to lure a Northwoods League team to town for the summers.
Someone mentioned in state players going elsewhere. There are over 100 Iowans playing division one baseball right now, almost all of them out of state. I would guess that is a lot more than Iowa has for soccer or hockey.

Has that much changed in the past couple months that we magically have a huge surplus to bring back baseball? You are absolutely right. I can tell you that here in Colorado, the CU AD has had to answer these questions since the early 80's and it has picked up steam since they joined the Pac 12. The extra revenue they are seeing won't be spent on baseball anytime soon and Iowa State isn't much different.
Until ISU consistently finishes in the upper half of the Big 12 in football, Iowa State won't be adding any teams.

I can't wait until I win the Powerball Wednesday to build a dome for ISU Baseball, attached to the new south end zone.

Re: Tcu has baseball.... Wvu has baseball....
Here is a point nobody has looked at yet. Principle Park in DSM is right by Court Ave Bar District. You get a late May Saturday night game with the Clones and Hawks with some fire works afterwards and you got a sellout and boost to the Des Moines ecconomy. That alone probably covers your lease payments. Throw in another late non-confrence game with Simpson/Creighton somthing like that and BOOM instant fun times in late spring for central IA Cyclone fans.
This thing is win win all the way around what is the Cy-Hawk trophy was all tied up going into ISU U of I ball game. People would get pumped for that easy.
Most posts on this thing are looking at all the wrong points on this one.

You know this quote is wrong. Much of Asia and most of central America love the game.

It is, but it will only take one big doner who really wants baseball to bring it back.

Re: Tcu has baseball.... Wvu has baseball....
If we really do have the "cost of attendance scholarships" like NCAA wants to do, it will make it even harder to bring back baseball.
I have no problem if they want to bring it back. I just think it should be done with nearly entirely private funds. We just got done being a breakeven athletic department, the cost of attendance scholarships will really make that difficult going forward. If people are dead serious about bringing baseball back I'd like to see an endowment set up.
I also think that those people thinking there will be hundreds of people at these games or that we would even be competitive in the conference are really, really stretching it.

Why do I get the feeling that about 5 people sit around in a dark room plotting the dates where they will start these whiny threads about baseball every 4 weeks? I love baseball, but please, as others have said, let's do some damage in football and basketball before we throw money at something no one ever cared about before until it was gone.
