And as far as I am concerned, more people would care about baseball than cross-country so how we ax the XC team and add baseball, cross country has more schollies than baseball anyway.
To be a division one athletic program you have to have a minimum of 6 mens and 6 women's sports. Track-Indoor-CC counts as 3, so you will rarely see a small athletic department without Track/CC

There were entire seasons where ISU barely drew 1,500 total. At no charge.

Even if we made 5 million, how long will that sustain a baseball team? 5 years?
I assume some money would also need to be spent to update facilities as well.
When the team was cut, we were told the only hope was to establish an endowment... At the time, there were people willing to do that but Van De Velde changed his mind and said that it wasn't enough. As it is, the only way to "bring it back" would be large donation for a stadium (min $7 mil) and to get started, as well as an endowment.
Ideally, a donor would also step up to build an off campus, privately owned facility that the team could lease and also sell alcohol... Then you would have no problem at all drawing decent crowds.

With a decent stadium, that people knew how to get to, 1500 a game would not be that hard to accomplish.

I assume some money would also need to be spent to update facilities as well. I replied to a poster that said, what's changed in the last few months? My response was indicating that we'll be getting some money from Mizzou.
I didn't begin to speculate on the viability of baseball, I was just responding that we might have a few million more than we thought a few months ago.
If it was me in the AD, I'd pay off debts. I'm sure we still owe not only the Jack Trice scoreboard but we probably still have a chunk from the Hilton one to go too.

At this point, even if we had established that endowment during the BVD years, we'd still be looking at a ton of money to refurbish a facility. There's really only so much money to go around.

You won't draw that many people. I know everyone who wants baseball back, says they would go and act like there are a lot of people whow would go. I was a huge baseball fan in college. I only went to a couple of games and the ones I went to, you'd be lucky if 150 people were there, not 1500.

JP has said on multiple occasions that ISU could bring back only baseball and not be in conflict with Title IX standards. Not sure where I heard this, but isn't a test of Title IX compliance the proportionate test which matches the number of male/female athletes to the male/female body of undergrads?

It would take 1.5 million, plus a $10,000,000 stadium (new or overhaul of Cap Timm). I think JP said at one time, that it would take a $10,000,000 donation to even consider it.
I love baseball. I went to baseball games when Cap Timm was actually the coach. But we have a lot more important priorities.

Doesn't MLB play enough games over the summer to keep you satisfied?

Has that much changed in the past couple months that we magically have a huge surplus to bring back baseball? I didn't know anyone was asking him. Does he read this board? Is that you, Jamie?
