Itd be a waste of money to try to start it here, especially when we have much more pressing uses for it in fb and bb already.
If we're going to start a new ncaa sport, make it hockey, or even better, lets get sand volleyball going.

Yikes? Hockey... I don't care if we are National Champions in hockey, I will not degrade my great mid-west school to such Canadian tomfoolery.
Of course it is going to be a waste of money. Any other sport besides football and basketball isn't really worth a damn anymore. I am just saying there are plenty of other things the university wastes it's money on as well.

If we're going to start a new ncaa sport, make it hockey, or even better, lets get sand volleyball going. I disagree with this. The last 15 years of baseball has had numerous great stories. I dont care what cable numbers say, people still flock to ballparks because baseball is awesome in person. It will never overtake the NFL but it will always be great.

So, a university should consider eliminating faculty and/or researchers in favor of a sport that very few people will watch and very few student-athletes will participate in or benefit from?
Man, you find new ways to dig deeper into that genius hole.

Re: Tcu has baseball.... Wvu has baseball....
As much as I would LOVE to have baseball back at ISU, we should really use that extra money to bowl the south endzone and giving Paul Rhodes a raise.

I think they should re-evaluate their staff and contribution. Should shake up some money and provide better education. Probably only had 3 professors that were worth a damn for all the money I provided ISU.

Tcu has baseball, Wvu has baseball, Isu has a bunch of people who ***** about a sport that isn't coming back.

Our whole state can't even compete, unless Iowa started playing Spring High school Baseball. I probably wasn't D1 caliber, none the less, I did miss out on a couple scholarships for baseball while I was in high school because Iowa plays summer ball. Most schools had made their decisions before our season even started. College baseball just doesn't fit well into Iowa, until this who global warming thing kicks in.

Nothing like bringing back a sport that is going to spend the first two months of the season playing on the road. Have you ever looked at the B12 baseball schedule - you don't host every B12 team at home, so you would only see 1/2 the conference in Ames. Look at Minnesota's schedule from last year, they didn't host a game until April. You are looking at the same scenario in Iowa. Re: Tcu has baseball.... Wvu has baseball....
Why is it embarrassing that we don't have baseball? Aside from going to Omaha every year for the 10 day booze-fest, I don't think very many people care about college baseball.

Re: Tcu has baseball.... Wvu has baseball....
I don't understand all of the naysaying. Of course baseball would lose money and be poorly attended...but how is that different than golf, cross-country, tennis, and gymnastics? Maybe those programs should be cut to make room for baseball? If the sole purpose was to optimize resources for football and MBB, then it would make sense to eliminate all other sports.
This really isn't about the money; if Kansas and K-State can afford to have baseball, then so could we. I feel bad for us baseball fans who would love to see ISU baseball again, though we're a small minority, but I really feel bad for the student athlete here. If you're coming from an Iowa high school and want to stay in-state for college, Iowa's your only option. And if you're not quite good enough for Iowa, you have no options. I think it would be a great thing to be able to offer our state's student athletes an excellent education at an amazing value while also giving them the chance to play baseball in a decent, competitive league. This is great for the kids and their families, and it's just a bonus if a few of us fans get to watch them play.
