So in reality, the money difference between big 12 and ACC is huge, even without accounting for tier 3 issues, ACC just hid it with an absurdly long and back-loaded contract.

They've had a top 4 BCS team once in the last decade, seems they already were a basketball conference. I'm pretty sure even the Big East and Mountain West have that beat.

The few threads they had about the FSU/Clemson rumors early have all pretty much died in complete silence as the rumors have gained legit substance. They get such a kick out of beating ISU at things other than the scoreboard. Making less or even comparable TV money would probably drive some of them to suicide.
