If there were a ton of solid reasons why FSU will make more money in the ACC they'd just put the simple truth of that out. Even some of the distortions still make the Big 12 seem more profitable, just not as profitable as reality may be.
I think none of us know for sure until the selection process for the 4 team playoff is made public. If it's top 4 of the current BCS ranking, FSU and Clemson would be total idiots not to jump at the Big 12. If it's top 4 conference champs and not just top 4, they still have a shot at getting in, but the ACC champ still would be outside looking in most years.

I think it was put out there to appease some of the faculty that is potentially up in arms about a move.

It doesn't seem to matter how short sighted some of these moves are, it is all about the money. Not gonna happen if the schools grant TV right to the conference for 13 years as being reported.

Yep, gives them a chance to say 'here's how the big 12 has addressed this". For instance, the revenue inequality, they can say 'the big 12 agreed last year to equalize tv revenue sharing, which addresses some of the concerns other schools had'

This conversation will stir up the opinions of FSU and other ACC schools. While most of us thought Missouri "belonged" in the Big 12, we were also sort glad to see them go. If FSU gets the same reaction, why wouldn't they consider leaving?

The only question I have with that comparison is: Missouri talked about a move to the Big Ten, which didn't happen, and then decided on the SEC. Although I don't remember every detail how Missouri reacted after the Big Ten-spurning, it appears the school was hell-bent on going somewhere else.
FSU-to-Big 12 may not have legs, but so far I haven't seen evidence that the school wants out of ACC no matter what, but could have eyes specifically on Big 12.
Then again, since I've read that UF would block a move to SEC, maybe it's just because there really are no other viable alternatives. (Pac-14 Southeast, anyone? )
