Florida State Trustees want to explore Big 12

Clemson
Virginia Tech
Georgia Tech

I want FSU. No doubt about it. If the Southeast is an expanding region of the country, why not get in 4 states of that region?


I only seem to remember that the Southeast was growing rapidly. If it's not, my plan doesn't really mean anything, anyway.

I would also throw NC State onto that list. And I know there are a lot of people that are opposed to Louisville, but I think they are a decent bridge between the eastern and western teams in what is looking to turn into a conference with a very large geographic footprint. I wouldn't necessarily want them as an "odd-numbered" team, but I still think they'd be okay as the 14th or 16th team.

Is Kansas quality content?

2007 or now? We are hardly in the position to point fingers considering where we were in 2007 and even where we are now. We were still 8th in 10 man conference filled with big names.

I think teams like Kansas are part of the reason we stay at 9. If we had the highest quality game every week than we really don't have to add an extra. The extra is to make up for some of poorer games.

Once we attempt to go into territory that the SEC doesn't own it will get tougher to pull those teams as the SEC will bid to go to 16 (Virginia Tech / North Carolina or NCST).

Good lord, can you imagine the SEC with VA Tech and UNC/NC State in their camp? That would be one beast of a conference, geographically and athletically...

Good thoughts. If it came down to Ga Tech or Va Tech, which would you choose? I don't know much about the Atlanta market; are most fans there in the UGA camp, or does Ga Tech have a sizable following?

What about the Carolina schools? If the ACC teams really are up for grabs, should we at least make an offer to UNC or NC State? I worry that if the Big 12 makes offers to several ACC schools and completely destabilizes the ACC, the SEC or Big Ten will swoop in and pick up UNC; should the Big 12 beat them to the punch?

I would go with Georgia Tech. UGA pretty much owns the entire state of Georgia, but GT is IN Atlanta, so there are plenty of fans there. And Georgia Tech has base there to really excel in multiple sports once Big XII money started flowing into it. Let's not forget, Tech does have a national championship in football, has had a strong basketball tradition and a rising women's bball program.

The Carolina schools are going as a block. In the Warchant article that started this thread, the ACC package looks to protect the Carolina schools. And honestly, UNC goes nowhere without Duke and NC State.

If the Big 12 offers big money, Chief Osceola would jump on Bevo and ride him bareback out of the ACC.

The only thing left behind would be the billowing smoke from his flaming spear.

I imagine this is most true for the state schools, but good point. I always forget about Wake Forest, too...talk about a program that's fallen off the relevancy map the last few years.

So the BOT and now the football coach are talking about this...it might not be a matter of if FSU is joining the Big 12 but when and who's coming with them

Notice how qualified the BOT chair and Fisher's comments have been, too--there's been no contact between the Big 12 and FSU "as far as he knows", and there have been no "official" talks. Eerily similar to last fall...
