Yeah, KSU during that era was notorious for bringing in JuCos who couldn't get into a lot of other schools. The state of Kansas has/had some kind of rule that students from a JuCo in the state of Kansas could get into KSU with lower standards than out of state JuCos. I don't remember the specifics but there were a lot of good JuCo players from Coffeyville Community College getting into KSU when they couldn't get in anywhere else.
That sounds like Snyders Academic All-stars to me.

Didn't Danny Mac run up the score on K-State once as payback?

It was however, a good way to send off Bill Snyder before his first retirement. We really need to beat the **** out of them this year. Maybe Snyder will call it quits again, this time for good. -

A fan base that cheered the team after close losses to FSU and Texas is a win at all costs operation is a wins only crowd.

Even though Jimmy Johnson is a scumbag I had to agree with him watching The U, it's not his fault if the opposing team sucks; why let a ****ty opponent dictate what you do?
Every time ISU has been b****-slapped we deserved it. Can't cry about being weaker/less prepared.
EDIT; it is kind of uncool when somebody like Alabama invites Southwestern Mississippi A&M Tech to their place and proceeds to beat the dog**** out of them but hey, they do get paid...

No, it's scoreboard first.
CPR could graduate 10 Rhodes Scholarship Athletes every year, but you'd want him fired if he didn't get to a Bowl game after a couple-three seasons.
Finally, can you imagine any student-athlete going up to their MBB / Football coach and tell him they can't make it to practice on time for Tues & Thur afternoons because his Organic Chem lab runs 3-hours and he values academics over sports (I graduated from ISU with a Chem degree and believe me, no athlete could make it through that curriculum due to the time demands of labs) . The kid would immediately be put into a "General Studies" program, or have his scholarship revoked.

Re: Bill Snyder Speaks
Congrats on the Chem Lab success. Hat's off to you!
Do I know you? Because I don't recall where I called for the head of any ISU coach. I'd like to know where you heard me say that. Must've been at the bar.
I stand corrected. ISU has a reputation for no holds barred, win at all cost, if you ain't cheatin' then you ain't tryin', take no prisoners attitude!
If only Criner could've gotten away with placing those players at Jucos!
We have an amazingly patient fan base. I believe a great many of us would be embarrassed for our school if we achieved illusory success by out and out cheating

We have an amazingly patient fan base. I believe a great many of us would be embarrassed for our school if we achieved illusory success by out and out cheating Thank you for the backhanded compliment I arrived at Iowa State in the fall of 1975, so to your point about a "patient fanbase", I can certainly relate. How about you, have you been an Alum longer? I understand why I evoked your reaction when I implied "you", rather than the ISU fanbase in general, so I sincerely apologize for the generalization. I still remain convinced ISU athletics is not different from other athletic programs.
Also, My point about my degree was to address the topic of the post about Snyder's comments and in general about the lack of meaningful degree programs for collegiate MBB and Football student-athletes. In my time at ISU, I had no (zero) MBB or FB athletes in my major courses. In my 37 years as a 'Clone fan, I don't recall any top scholarship contributors who graduated in my field, or relative curriculum. It's nearly impossible to pursue certain majors and still be able to make it to the Training Room for ankle taping by 2pm; not saying it hasn't been done, just not in my time.
The study I referenced about "Clustering" ought to interest anybody who cares about the investment in scholarship awarded to collegiate athletes and for that I'm convinced Iowa State is not much different because they have 'blueprinted' curriculums that are not relevant to what today's job market values. At most schools (about 60 were referenced in the study), > 70% of the juniors and seniors in FB and MBB were Clustered into bogus majors and curriculums. Many of these athletes had to reenter college in their late-20's / 30's to get a relevant degree - how would you feel if you had to pay for four years of college - again - as a young 30-something? I've personally known many ISU athletes who experience this route and I don't see it changing anytime soon; if anything, it will get worse.
