Texas Tech considering 11 game schedule to avoid LHN
Wow if this has anything to it! Tech is scheduled to play at Texas State on Sept 8, and ESPN holds Texas State's TV rights. Since the Longhorn network is an ESPN affiliate, they've decided to show the Tech vs. Texas State game on the Longhorn network and Tech says no way...Tech is considering an 11 game schedule for the fall in order to avoid the Longhorn network, but I would think that'd be a pure bluff. Right????
RedRaiderSports.com - Tech may play on LHN
Re: Texas Tech considering 11 game schedule to avoid LHN
You beat me to it!
Holy crap! But if I were Tech - I would consider it!
Why play a road game at Texas State to have Texas longhorns make money on the broadcasting of it? I hope ISU would cancel a game against UNI if it were to be played on a Hawkeye network and Iowa city community college make money on it!
Hook 'em.... F 'em

Alright Bowlsby or Nienas, whoever is in charge...this is something that should be able to be worked out in private between conference members. Since Texas State has no say in the matter, this is something that needs to be taken care of with no hurt feelings.

Texas has some influence, but it would be ESPNs call at the end of the day.
Good on Tech though. It would be cool if they played a team scrimmage at their home stadium on that Saturday and use the ticket sales to fund the buyout of the UTSA game.

It's a Texas State home game therefore, their conference TV.

Right, but Texas State doesn't get a choice on what network ESPN puts it on.

This isn't a Big 12 Administration matter (i.e. Bowlsby or Nienas should have nothing to do with this). It's a TTU/Texas State/Whatever Conference they're in matter.

But don't you think that UT has a big say in what content gets put on their network? If Bowlsby and UT approach ESPN and say, "listen, this isn't worth the strife to our conference, what can we do to fix this?" Don't you think ESPN would strongly listen to what UT and the conference say?
But yes, you're right, technically ESPN can do whatever they want and tell UT and the Big 12 to get lost.

Yep. Not everything is Texas' fault. ESPN does what they want and what they want is football on the LHN to make it viable for cable/sat pickup.

Yeah, I agree, Texas probably has got more than their share of grief in the last year. And if you're ESPN all you care about is getting this network carried so you don't continue to lose money. But that Tech would consider dropping this game altogether 2-3 months before the game is going to cause a lot of anger and hurt feelings that isn't worth whatever potential payout ESPN could get from this game. Thats why I think the UT and B12 admins should approach ESPN to say, "is this really worth it? If it is, can we do something to help you out?"

Think ESPN is losing money on the LHN?

Fight the power, Tech!
Yes. The LHN doesn't cause any friction in the conference and was in no way a part of the issues of the past few years.
I'll take this as a clue.
