Why would 2 major conference merge. There is a lot of power that would be lost in that happening. We are heading to 4 major conferences. Odds are the Big 12 is being active in getting bringing new schools into the conference. The ACC and Big East are falling apart, there is no reason the Big 12 wont add teams from that conference.
We're on this line of discussion as a "what if" the Big Ten and SEC add another 2-10 teams while the Big 12 sits with it's thumb up its rear end because "we like ten".
If they both expand, then both make money doing so, the power brokers in both the Big 12 and Pac 12 would thirst for a bigger conference any way they can get it down the road. People don't want to hear it but a profitable huge Big Ten and profitable huge SEC are not good for ISU's security, especially if "we like ten".
One of the issues is that to get OU and KU you may have to take the other school in the state which is also why Oregon st and washington st would likely be safe
I don't know how many times it has been posted (with links) that, at the very least, KU is not tied to K-State when it comes to conference realignment. OU may not be tied to OSU, either. The thing OSU has going for it is T Boone Pickens $$$.
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.
I'm saying 2hrs difference with the PAC teams sucks (2 times zones away). Do not want.
The thing is, with that size of conference you really dont have to change the structure all that much, depending how you structure it. We could play a conference schedule consisting of our half and one from the other side. Itd basically be 2 conferences (just called divisions) with a 'challenge' game, but flying under the same banner so you can negotiate better tv and bowl deals.
