I would love to see the Big 12 go after Rhode Island School of Design or Trinity College because their mascots are awesome!

If I remember correctly, ND picked Navy as one of their guaranteed rivalry games (just like USC) when they partially joined the ACC. It could be an attempt to force ND's hand. The rest of the ACC said they'd sign the GOR if ND joined 100%.
... And Navy has an order of magnitude more tradition (and fans/TVs) than Maryland ever did.

Could still schedule 4 marquee Non-con games (USC, 2 Big Ten, and one other), and roll through their conference schedule. And still have Rivals, BC, Navy, Pitt. And can keep their promise to play navy forever.

... And Navy has an order of magnitude more tradition (and fans/TVs) than Maryland ever did. If this were to happen, the GOR + ND full, it would freeze everything in place and the Big Ten's master plan sputters out. Big 12 could actually be our current 10 teams for a long time.
If it doesn't happen, it looks like the ACC falls apart and the Big 12 goes "mega conference".
Either scenario is good from an ISU/Big 12 standpoint. Only long term negative is that Big Ten and SEC are possibly still left hungry and 10 years down the road go after Big 12 teams rather than ACC teams. With the second scenario of the ACC going into oblivion there seems to be no negative for the Big 12 especially given the cozy nature with the SEC on the Champions Bowl.

From a money standpointe, makes no sense for ND though.

I just never get to practice writing those words much.
