I don't know if 16 will work in the long run. I think 12 is way better.

Louisville is just trying to get out of the Big East at this point. If the Big12 does expand and needs another team to get to 12, 14, or 16, they can poach UL out from under the ACCs nose. I still think there are many team that make more sense then Louisville. Louisville brings in a small fan base and a small TV market. Clemson, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, Boston College, Virginia, Florida State, Duke, NC State, Pitt, Syracuse, UConn, South Florida, and Cincinnati all make more sense to me then Louisville.

I think it's obvious that our TV partners were not willing to up our contract for adding Louisville and that's why the B12 never pulled the trigger. Louisville has been banging down the B12's door for over a year now. If we still had Beebe running the show, I'd be nervous. But Bowlsby has already gotten the B12 an $800 mil contract with the SEC for our bowl game and I trust he is on top of this.

Good point. It's not like the ACC stole Louisville from the Big12. We had our shot and didn't take it for a reason.

Re: ***OFFICIAL BIG 12 EXPANSION THREAD 2.0***
I wonder if the bcs conferences would consider having some orderly draft that gets to (4x16). The acc has the biggest incentive right now, the pac is also locked out because of big12 gor. The b1g and sec seem to have the most power to pick and choose. And big12 is locked out until b1g and sec move first.
What if the big 12 agreed to dissolve, with the understanding that each team is picked in the 4x16? The numbers seem to match up with this. With b1g at 14, sec at 14, acc at 14 and pac at 12, 10 teams are needed to fill out the 4x16. I think the B1g and sec would be ok as long as they had first choice, given TX and OU. The acc is just happy to be around, so they agree to take last two teams. The pac is also pretty happy to get some of the middle big 12 teams. TX and OU would also get additional concessions in order to agree to this.

The conferences are all about money. Geography has nothing to do with it in the long run.

Clemson and Florida State will come if they want to be in a football-relevant conference. I would be fine it stayed at 12. In the bloated B1G and Sec, they might only play some of their rivals at home once a decade. No thanks.

Everything is riding on the ACC's lawsuit against Maryland. If they win, don't know if anyone else would leave. If they settle for less than the full buyout, ACC is as unstable as ever, get ready for poaching season.
