There will be 4 respected conferences: Pac, Big 10, Big 12, SEC. The ACC will exist, but will be something less. They will squeeze a team into the playoffs every couple of years. Pretty much what I have been trying to say. I think it will be every 5 years or so, but they will have access.

Re: ***OFFICIAL BIG 12 EXPANSION THREAD 2.0***
Os if that's true, the ACC is left with:
- BC
- Clemson
- Duke
- FSU
- Miami
- NCST
- Wake Forest
- UNC
- VT
- Pitt (2013)
- Syracuse (2013)
I assume that they will look to add Cinncinatti and UCONN. If the SEC were to step in and take UNC and VT as has been rumored then they're down to 7 plus the 2 added next year. Even with adding UCONN and Cincy, can that conference survive with 11? If the conference were to fall apart, there would be at least 5 schools in that list that would be left without a major football conference. While there would be a good basketball conference that joins with the Big East, that's quite a hit for a lot of these schools. It may be that UCONN and Cincy would even turn down an offer until some clarity ensues and I wouldn't be surprised if Syracuse and Pitt were in conversations about remaining in the Big East.
I wonder if the Big10 has some insight into the buyout deals because even with how much money they have, I can't imagine members would be enthusiastic about helping out with $150 million in buyouts.

And there is no damn way they're excluded from some future playoff system simply because their conference isn't "big enough." This is one big reason I'm not sold on the inevitability of the megaconferences.

Yep, HoopsTourament is getting too hung-up on the numbers- the process to four super conferences and major/minor leagues is very much happening- whether is be 4x16; 3x16 + 1x12; 1x18 + 1x16 + 2x12. At this point 4x16 is used in the same as saying Big 12 or Big 10.
Next he is going to claim people are all wrong when he disagrees by 3 hours of when it will happen.

No that bleacher report is worth **** Commuter schools like USF and Louisville are going to end up in the BE/ACC/CUSA. The BCS Presidents and networks don't want them.

Next he is going to claim people are all wrong when he disagrees by 3 hours of when it will happen. Not sure what the hell you are trying to communicate here but all of the existing D1/FBS FB schools are going to have access to the 4=team playoff and major bowls for all 12 years of the new playoff TV deal. The P12 isn't going to expand to 16 with schools like SDSU, New Mexico or BSU, they will stay at 12. If Fox wants to fund B12 expansion to 16 (ESPN won't), they maybe the B12 goes to 16 along with the SEC and B10.

In contrast the Big 12 made a straight top 4 with no conference champ requirement 7/10 years. Big Ten and ACC have to be praying the selection committees weigh conference champs and not just straight ranking or they'll be out as often as not with just four slots.

My comments did not have college athletics ending in 10 years, but like usual you are a one move thinker. It is good to see you are coming around on the Big 12 expanding though. I also do not see the Pac-12 expanding in the next 10 years. As for all D1/FBS schools having access to the 4 team playoff and major bowls for the next 10 years, they could, but we shall see.

If you want to call that access, fine. It is not the "super" conferences that deny access, it is their legions of fans.

I could see up to 20 down the line in some conferences, probably 10 years out though. Say two conferences went to 20 each. With that many high-profile teams, they would be tremendously influential. They would also be very stable, for that influence and appeal would allow them to have conference networks that tax the public nationwide. Then consider those two conferences form a bowl for their champions to meet. At 40 teams of the nations richest, and likely best, programs, it would be THE game. For those worried about anti-trust and exclusionary lawsuits, it will not be the conferences that do the delineation, but the legions of fans that support those 40 teams. Some markets and teams will be left out, but the cuts will be gradual as this evolves. In this way there will not be enough motivated protesters at one time to prevent anything. After 10-20 years, people will look back, and say, "remember when School X played major college football?" More likely, as the SEC and Big 10 move towards this, the Big 12 moves to 12 or 14, and eventually becomes the 3rd major by adding Pac-12 schools.
