I've said from the very beginning that Penn State football would be serving its own self interests by suspending their program for at least a few games if not one full season. It's the only way.

If they never miss a single game out of the whole thing the public perception is the organization was absolved of any wrong doing. Short term financial hit, long term financial benefit to the brand.

Suspending their program makes no sense to me. Jail time for all who knew and covered it up and multi-million dollar settlements for those they hurt does make sense.

I don't disagree with you about the punishments being much more important in terms of justice. Just from a PR and brand identity standpoint I think they'd be better off financially in the long run if they suspended at least one football game. Personally I don't care if they're eternally branded as serial child molesters, but if I had an attachment or degree with Penn State I'd be outraged they're not making the best PR move though.

If the football program never misses a game, to many the entities that are Penn State and Penn State football will have been absolved. Not saying it's fair or logical but public opinion is rarely either.
