Re: Gillispie to be fired
What a shame for the players and program after giving this train wreck a second (or was it a third ?) chance. Good to see the admins not tolerating this action/behavior.

Remember when ISU fans wanted to hire him after GMac left? Yikes.

Re: Gillispie to be fired
So, an interim coach for the year? Doesn't he have up to 12 weeks of FMLA?

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Re: Gillispie to be fired
Wonder if he has coached his last game at a major sized school. Not sure he will coach at a smaller school for the $ he would normally command but he may have to settle for what those schools are willing to pay.

Re: Gillispie to be fired
If they go interim coach, I would assume it would be Jeremy Cox who's on the staff. Was one of Doc Saddler's assistants at Nebraska and coached Arkansas-Ft. Smith to a DII Juco national title...

+ former Indiana guard Tom Coverdale quit his job at Tyler Junior College after being promised an assistant coaching spot under Gillispie. Just days before he was set to arrive, Gillispie told Coverdale the job was actually an assistant strength position that paid about half as much
+ Gillispie also promised former junior college coach Matt Eisele a job, according to numerous sources, but then pulled the offer. Renard Phillips spent three months out in Lubbock having virtually no idea of his job responsibilities,
+ NCAA Violations of the 4-hours per day and 20-hours practice limits
+ 30-players leaving the program after only 2-years of Gillispie.
+ Ignoring Doctor's advice and making a kid practice with a broken foot, despite x-rays showing otherwise. -

Any school that hires him is just asking for trouble, even if it's just an assistant job.

Good article on Giillispie Recalling the Kentucky tenure of troubled Texas Tech coach Billy Gillispie -- men's college basketball - ESPN
He can coach but that's all and really there is a lot more to being a coach than just coaching.

Re: Gillispie to be fired
I hope Gillespie comes out of this better off, just like others who need to find rock bottom in their lives before getting things turned around.
On a purely selfish note:
Gillispie's buyout: $5million
A conference rival major program in turmoil: priceless.
I don't know how much the buyout is but the turmoil, but I am sure of the other.

You definitely better have your ducks in a row at any rate. I guess it depends on how quickly they want to move on; basketball season looms.
