    No Seniors Needed

Charlie Weis gives up on team just five games into the season - CBSSports.com
Weis announced on this week's Big 12 conference call that he practiced without seniors on Sunday, citing the need to develop younger players for the future.

It's an odd approach for Weis to publicly take considering he is just five games into his first season in Lawrence. The Jayhawks are a miserable 1-4, but two of the losses have come by seven or points or less. Kansas even showed signs of life early against Kansas State before getting blown out.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.

“You have to understand,” Weis said, “the steps that you have to take to get there.”
Based on his record as a coach, it's unclear Weis really understands what it takes to "get there."

Whoever thought that Weis was the answer... isn't a very intelligent individual.
This signature has received the stamp of disapproval from that one guy.

    Re: No Seniors Needed

His problem at every job he has had since New England is that he thinks he is so much smarter than everyone. His arrogance has been his downfall.
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

Why are seniors and developing young players mutually exclusive?

I'd hate to have our young linebackers learning from Jake and AJ.

I can't see how dumping on your seniors en masse could ever lead to something awful in your leadership of the team. Most guys respond to that sort of leadership. It's beautiful.

    Re: No Seniors Needed

KU went for the biggest name in a knee jerk reaction after Turner Gill did not work out. Just happens the biggest name can't Coach. No reason to believe he knows what it takes to be successful after failing at Notre Dame. Terrible hire.

Not using your Seniors sends a bad message and splits the team IMO. Get younger guys reps, but treat each player with respect. These guys give 4 years to the school, but you write them off? I would not want to play for him.

The biggest irony is that Weis himself only plans on KU being a 4 year job, said that before he coached a game. I don't mind an opposing Big 12 coach slapping himself with an expiration date.

Can you imagine if Rhoads pulled a stunt like this first year in? If I was a player on the team or one of the 37 KU Football fans out there, I would have a bad taste in my mouth already

Luckily, Charlie Weis has just the solution for a bad taste in the mouth...eat a pound of bacon, followed by a heaping tablespoon of lard.

You forgot that he washes that down with a bacon lard shake.

I guess I wonder how big of a deal this really is. He may have been giving the Seniors a day off and is focusing on the rest of the players. Seniors could probably add some support and help the younger guys learn but since it is Weis's first year some of the seniors might know just a little more than the rest. If Weis does this more and more than I would probably say it is a pretty big deal.

The guys who gave 4 years to a terrible program. They've been a member of some terrible teams but stuck with it. And now their coach is ditching them.

Confirms everything I thought about Weis.

    Re: No Seniors Needed

I'm ok with this. Hopefully by November 17th when I am in Lawrence I can watch ISU put up 50 (with 35 of those points coming from the D.)
“They're very, very hard to guard,” Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey said. “They're really good. And with Niang in the middle kind of wheeling and all those guys spreading you out, they're kind of a nightmare matchup. And they're men. They're really men.”
