Count me in, innocent or guilty, disappointed that he got himself in that situation. Unfortunately, so many aren't getting the message that their decisions are the only thing they control.

Re: 2 Texas Players accused of rape

I just think that in today's society, especially if you are an athlete in college or pro, you just can't risk having sex with anyone... period. You're just setting yourself up for this kind of thing, even if it was consensual.

As numerous posters have correctly pointed out, even if you're found innocent, your reputation has been permanently tarnished. I think if you are accused of rape and you are found to be innocent... then the person that charged you with rape should pay you for your pain and suffering.... and that would be a LARGE amount of money.

I just think there should be some kind of punishment for bringing forth false accusations against somebody. If not, then why not just accuse everyone you have sex with with rape? Even if you're only succesful once, it might make you enough money for life.

That's like saying that because people get killed in car wrecks you should never get in a car. The ratio of athletes accused of rape to those not accused of rape is extremely low. It just gets a lot of publicity when it does happen.

There is; filing a false police report usually is a crime. The problem with this is that the accuser becomes the accused, which has a chilling effect and would make it even harder for victims to come forward. Most rapes go unreported as is, and even fewer would be if every victim had to be worried about being prosecuted themselves if their attacker somehow evades a conviction.

Ok... so if you're an athlete at college.... just go ahead and have a bunch of sex with unknown women, right? Because, chances are, they won't charge you with rape.

And it's not the same thing as driving a car. That is a stupid comparison.

This happened after 2AM, so either Mack didn't set a curfew for the team or these guys were breaking it.

That's not what he's saying it all. Draconian "solutions" (like not having sex and not driving a car) are unrealistic and quixotic.

Your perspective on non-sports things appears to be as off as your views on ISU sports...and that's something I didn't think was possible.

Yeah, I realize this as well. I just wish there was some way to punish people that obviously report false accusations.

If I had to wager my house, I'd bet that Bubu Palo didn't rape anyone. I would bet that he had consensual sex with another woman. But... whether or not he can prove that is another situation entirely. And I'm not saying this just because he's an ISU athlete. I just don't think he's the kind of person that would do this, that's all. There are quite a few ISU athletes that if they were charged with this crime, I wouldn't have a hard time believing it at all. Bubu would probably have been at the very bottom of that list.

It's unrealistic to not have sex in college? Hmmm, that's interesting.

I'd bet that ISU athletes are warned extensively against this. Just for the fact that they are "targets". A girl can get famous pretty quick by accusing a star athlete of rape.

You do realize this does occur all the time? I don't hear of athletes getting accused of rape every day.

There's medication for that. But yes, that's another good reason not to do it.

Yes, I realize this. All I'm saying is that you put yourself at risk in doing so. Bubu might not have done anything wrong at all, but now his life is ruined, even if he is found innocent.

Do you think Bubu is wishing he hadn't done it right now? I'm guessing he'd say it wasn't worth it, wouldn't you? And it was all under his control. He didn't have to do it.

It's just like drinking and driving. People do it all the time, and only think of the consequences when they run over a family of four and kill them all, and then they wish they hadn't done it.

There was a reference there, but I believe the yoga pants thread has been deleted.
