I hate that Miami plays in a half-empty NFL stadium, but that name draws water still.
I would only take Miami with FSU and Clemson. Oregon is kind of "The U" of today I think in terms of young fans wanting excitement and I just don't see Miami rising up in the near future. That, and like you said, they play in a more than half empty stadium which isn't attractive.

It wouldnt surprise me if they still have a brand that draws some ratings as a recognized name though, even if they cant bring any fans of their own to their stadium.

I still can't believe that posts like this are real conversations, for geography's sake. The only reason I listen to them is that we added WVU, and actually started playing games against them this year. I'm still not comfortable with it. I scoff when I hear things of, for example, Boise St going to the Big East, but we've done the same thing. Apparently I'm not up with "change", but I really would prefer to keep conferences within geographic distances for several reasons. Fan travel. Less stress for traveling players. Less chance of lower-tier sports being dropped because of travel costs. No cultural crossover.
I live in a college town in Colorado, a college that is not in the Big XII. While it is indeed further west, it used to basically be in the Big XII footprint, and has a lot of transports. I see a lot of gear around here from not only Colorado State, but other schools such as ISU, Texas, Iowa, Nebraska (of course), OU, aTm, KSU, KU, Mizzou, etc. I have never seen anyone wear gear from WVU. Pitt. Louisville. Miami, rarely. FSU. Clemson. I realize I'm not exactly in the footprint of the current Big XII, but not far from it. And I've lived in Nebraska and Iowa for most of my life, Chicago for a year. Seen very little gear from the teams that are talked about in this thread. And I've been to Florida and Georgia and the Carolinas, used to do business there. There's nothing that we have in common with those schools.
I realize that it's inevitable that the "superconferences" will happen at some point. But I wish there was some sort of geographic logic to this expansion. It was once a goal of mine to road trip to all of the Big XII schools for an ISU away football game. Obviously is tougher now, and certainly much more difficult if we're playing on the East Coast. I just don't like it....

Too bad the NCAA can't just interfere and start the slate over... just put teams in conferences that geographically, academically, and competitively make sense.

Couldn't agree more! I want regional foes that I could actually road trip to games plus develop some sort of natural rivalry. Miami, Clemson? I realize that's the current mind-set but I still hope for someone with a bucket of common sense to run in the room and douse the admin's.
Re: Sounds like Miami has said they would come to Big 12 if invitation was made and t
The definition of "logic" has been greatly redifined now by the almighty dollar bill. It's as simple as that.
Re: Sounds like Miami has said they would come to Big 12 if invitation was made and t
The only ACC schools I get "excited" about are FSU & Clemson. Miami is a "meh" for me, but they are better than Georgia Tech by about a mile.

Rivalries be damned!
Re: Sounds like Miami has said they would come to Big 12 if invitation was made and t
If you can road trip to Morgantown, you can also road trip to Miami.
Re: Sounds like Miami has said they would come to Big 12 if invitation was made and t
Of course the Big 8 model is the greatest concept in conference history -- 20 years ago.
I'd love to stay at ten schools, but I'm not sure it's viable long term if the Big Ten is able to break into the southeast (Georgia Tech, North Carolina, etc.). Texas will start looking again once the 13 year GoR expires.
Either way, let's just be glad we aren't in the ACC right now.
Re: Sounds like Miami has said they would come to Big 12 if invitation was made and t
Conf relaignment is dumb. Give me the old lay out any day. I payed way less attention to the Big 12 this year than in years past because who really gives a rip about WVU??? Conf relaigment is like a forced mariage and no one is ever happy in those things. Why do you think kings were always chopping of wifes heads back in the day. Just sayin

I would take Miami and FSU in a heartbeat. Florida is the prominent school in that state so the Big 12 would take the other two to grab it's share. It would be great for TV and recruiting. Take those 2 and watch the ACC crumble and see what else is left after the SEC and BIG get to 16 and hope they stop there. The money is awesome but I just don't think we are stable at 10 and I've never trusted the PAC. The PAC's only real viable option to expand is to try to get into TX and who knows what's up there sleeve to do that? We need to expand and hope the ACC falls.
Re: Sounds like Miami has said they would come to Big 12 if invitation was made and t
I, for one, will welcome Miami to the newly constituted Big IIXII+II+I North.

I would probably rather have GT, but wont complain about Miami...
