Don't really agree, it's a top 15 football brand name and a very good school (easily above average for the Big 12) in prime recruiting country, major tv market outside our footprint. The Big Ten has proven that being a good football brand means a gazillion times more than actually being good at football in all of this, it's not like Miami has completely fallen off the map in football anyway.
I do agree Miami is likely really about getting FSU to be a long term fit, but I think they bring something on their own and if Miami and another decent non-FSU school wanted to come it would be worth it to go to 12 for that.

TCU was special because they are in Texas. It was important to the remaining teams that they continue to get to play in Texas often for recruiting. They also were immediately available.

The only school it may have mattered to is Ok St. That was a mistake if that was their thinking- 1 more game in Texas means nothing, especially since the conference was never going to be able to stay at 10 if it wanted to survive. Adding TCU or not adding TCU has little impact on the Big 12's status in the state of Texas. Did TCU bring anything more than UL in terms of $$$. Immediately available is not a good enough reason. Play a year at 9 with UL signed to join in 2013.
Face it, certain Texoma schools were content on being a Texoma conference and did not want to add another team outside of their bubble. It was just another mistake in a long list of mistakes by the leadership of the Big 12. Oh well.

Can't believe anyone believes any of this.

L-ville will never see the BigXII. If there were only 3 Texas schools we would only see Texas 3 times every 2 years instead of 4 times every 2 years. Nothing has been as important to the northern teams as access to Texas recruits and playing in Texas helps. In 10 years that is a difference between 15 and 20 trips there.

GD, that is comical- disagreeing with past Big 12 decisions is now UT/OU butthurt. Then you run the ******* conference big shot. I enjoy your work.

Where would ISU be if UT and OU were not in the conference? Just saying we need them they make the Big Twelve go. I do not like it just as much as the next guy with the whole politics of it all, but politics is everywhere even in the work place. We are in an AQ conference bringing in some awesome money right now so I am good with that.

Questioning the previous vision and plans of the leaders of the Big 12 is not conspiratorial or filing a grievance.

Miami would be a GREAT add to the Big 12. Hope this comes true.

I think you are under the impression that the BigXII had a lot of time when all this went down. The bigXII was in scramble mode to try to keep Texas and co from taking the show the the Pac. We needed to shore things up and shore things up fast. TCU accomplished a lot of goals. L-ville would have just meant another northern school for Texas to have to travel to. Is TCU Florida State...God no. But, FSU wasn't even a remote possibility at that time. We needed to find a way to pull it together, keep everyone happy and rich and TCU was available and fit enough criteria that they worked. They aren't perfect, but they were the best option of everyone on the table at the time. Northern schools got another trip to Texas, Texas gets to stay where its warm one more game per year, and there was no buy out. Plus, TCU was an automatic yes man to the Texas OU axis. To even think L-ville would have helped us pull it together is silly. They aren't even going to help save the ACC.

To even think L-ville would have helped us pull it together is silly. Wait, is this not what I was saying? The Big 12 being in scramble mode was self-induced panic! Like I suggested, the leaders of the Big 12 (including some northern schools, which I did not previously acknowledge) made a decision based on certain schools not wanting to leave their area and without having a good idea on how future expansion was going to play out. Actually, FSU was a remote possibility, or at least Dodds thought it was while he was being played by ND. TCU's value is being a yes man and teams not having to leave the region- given the conference's need to become more relevant nationally, I do not see that as adding value.
I am excited that perhaps the Big 12 still has a good opportunity to use expansion to better position itself to compete with the SEC and BIG. If we can create a strong eastern counterpart (FSU, Miami, Clemson, GT, WVU, UL, Va Tech, NC ST would have been a hell of a division) to the Texoma side, we will be on par with the BIG and SEC.

TCU and WV and the grant of rights that came from that scramble are what are allowing us to have a realistic shot at the Florida schools now. We were literally days from destruction and had to make some quick tough calls that are looking like they might pay off.
