Iowa State last in Big 12 recruiting???
So the obvious move is to add 2 (or more schools) that have no bearing on how the SEC big dogs recruit?
The Big 12 had 9 schools make bowl games this year (just in case you weren't paying attention). If the Big 12 can continue that trend, the competitiveness in the conference should improve. The rumored scheduling alliance between the Big 12 and SEC would also go a long way to improve the talent-pool.
Yes, adding some marquee schools in fertile recruiting grounds ala FSU/Miami/Clemson would be a big help in terms of prestige and recruiting areas.
Also, it was painfully obvious that the B12 was overrated when our top 2 teams were beaten 71-35. We had several above average teams, but didn't have a team that would finish in the top 4, possibly top 5 of the SEC.
We have become the B1G
Outside of Georgia's comeback and Alabama schmucking Manti Te'o,plus the Manziel fest, what other top teams looked good? Florida? LSU?
Oregon or KState would have beaten ND. The top of the SEC was not that dominant. A/M has the best player in college football. When Manziel leaves, that team crashes down and wanking jar holders everywhere go ballistic.Ole Miss made a bowl game out of that conference. Did you watch them play UT. Texas could have hung a hundred on that team.
The SEC wins the hype train once more, and they did have some great teams, but the bottom of the conference was far worse than ours, and it was no contest.
We are not the BIG, but the Big 12 was down last year. Texas and Oklahoma haven't been Texas and Oklahoma of last decade and I really think that is where most of the problem comes for the Big 12. We have the depth, but we don't have any high end teams. We haven't really had a high end team for a good 5 years.
This is one of the dumbest posts i have ever read. We have 9 top 50 teams and a lot of parity. Yes we were not as strong at the top but to state we wouldnt finish in the top 5 is hog wash. We had the #1 conference rank by sagarin etc. A&m likely was the best team in the country at the end of the year. If their schedule hadnt been so front loaded with a rookie still getting his sea legs they would have been playing for the title. Oregon and Alabama were the next two best and then there was a drop off but KSU with a preconcussion klien and OU in the mix with the next 3 or 4 schools. Florida was beat by lousyville...georgia not that great vs, nebbie. I would take Notre dame, ksu and OU over this bunch. And pound for pound i would take the big 12 over anyone. Look at it another way did any other conference have 100% of members in top 60 recruiting?. by the way rivals has our class at #50 up from #89 last year.
True. Georgia didn't really blow Nebraska out of the water and Nebraska wasn't anything exciting. Louisville beat Florida. South Carolina barely beat Michigan. LSU lost to Clemson. Alabama is really really good. A&M is really good. You also have to keep in mind that OU has a tendency to do poorly in bowl games, this is nothing new for them and for A&M I think they saw this game as a way to vindicate leaving.
I don't really care about the "gap" between our conference and any other. When ISU starts playing in BCS bowls then maybe I'll give it some thought. We only have to worry about possibly playing an SEC team what, like once per year in a bowl game?
News flash the SEC is beating every conference in recruiting.
Exactly. And as long as the talking heads keep saying, "OMG SEC IS THE GREATEST CONFERENCE EVER!" it's going to remain that way. I'm not saying that it isn't a great conference, but the gushing that goes on, makes you think every team is challenging for the NC over there. That's far from the case. But the kids hear it and you can't blame them for going that direction. The Hype machine is king right now.
I'm too lazy to look it up, but I heard that the B12 didn't land one 5-star player this year (Rivals)???
