It's called "travel partners" and yes the Big 10 used to do this as well in the days before t.v. took over scheduling.

Make the reasonable accommodation. That's good business and let's them know that they actually are welcome.
Feel free to poke at the lack of foresight on the travel issue. That reminds them of their hillbilly heritage.

Apparently, the ONE book that's not in the collection at the WVU campus library.........is the Rand/McNally road atlas.

at the same time though, i dont think them asking to schedule things differently is out of line either.

Would this be an issue if they were winning more games in Football and MBB?
I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone. -
Re: WV Not Happy about Travel in Conference
To be fair, this has to suck for all the little sports that didn't get a say in any of this, like their women's bball and vball teams. I wonder how much they can even be in class during the season with multiple games a week.

That's true, but OTOH the "non-revenue" sports didn't have much choice: Either travel more or find ways to live within the smaller budget they would have due to playing in the rapidly dying "Big Least". Either way those sports have to play second fiddle.

Feel free to poke at the lack of foresight on the travel issue. That reminds them of their hillbilly heritage. I agree with the first couple of lines. These seem like reasonable accomodations.
It's not that WVU did not know geography IMO. I think WVU has always planned to ask for some sort of accomodation, but they purposely didn't push too strongly for it when they were entering the Big 12, especially after what may have happened with BYU.

So having them join the conference was more like a "marriage" than a "merger"?
Fine, but if they want me to get rid of my motorcycle, those shoeless, toothless, couch-burning hillbillies can go take a flying leap. That's what we call a "deal-breaker".

Re: WV Not Happy about Travel in Conference
In the reader comment this one sums it up for WVU: Being a native West Virginian and a WVU grad (and season ticket holder) I can say without reservation that geography was never a strong suit for us in school. We learned where the nearest beer joint was located, the liquor store and the welfare office. What more did we need to know? -
Re: WV Not Happy about Travel in Conference
Well, apparently they had planned on hillbilly transport, not recognizing that Texas is not just over the ridge in the next holler.

Re: WV Not Happy about Travel in Conference
The travel wouldn't seem so bad if they weren't getting their *** beat in the process.

Re: WV Not Happy about Travel in Conference
As a poster already mentioned...this does have the ring of "take the money first" and then ask for some accommodations later...but we do need them to be happy I guess.
