Sutton's buyout

2.7 mil over 10 years, he gets paid if he gets another job. Not to bad for 2 years of average work. He better thank his Daddy for getting him paid. You would think the owner of OSU AKA Boone Pickens would just write him one big check.

Interesting story.

Thank you Wes Johnson for the great 2 years you gave Iowa State. Wish you could've stayed. Best of luck to you, wherever you end up.

"The one thing I really want to say is to tell the fans thank you for everything," Johnson said. "You rooted for me, you were behind me with my injury, and I really appreciated that."

I would think it would be easier to just give him a big check and get it over with as well.

Maybe in Mr. Pickens old age he will make the mistake of writing ISU on those checks instead of OSU.

Re: Sutton's buyout

DOes not sound like Eddie is too pleased. Here is a quote from him:

"Eddie Sutton, who was in San Antonio Monday for the NCAA Championship game, told the Austin American-Statesman he is disappointed his son was forced to step down and will consider whether he wants his name removed from the basketball court at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
“That’s something I’m going to think about,” Eddie Sutton told the newspaper. "

Re: Sutton's buyout

Why would it be better to pay 2.7 million in one big check when they can invest a much smaller amount and pay it out in installments of the next 10 years while it collects interest.

That's what I said when they hired him. One of the worst cases of nepotism. Daddy set him up with a big time high paying job. OSU's own fault..

I agree that the smart thing is to pay it over time. The NPV (Net Present Value) of this payment stream at the rate of return Pickens has been earning for the money he gave them would be a much smaller number than the $2.7 million over the 10 + years.

Re: Sutton's buyout

Or when you are just loaded with money up to the ceiling, and throwing it at an average sports university, a few million lost here or there really dosnt matter i guess
