Frank Martin signs contract with K-State

By HOWARD RICHMAN

The Kansas City Star

Kansas State men’s basketball coach Frank Martin signed a five-year contract through the 2011-12 season that with total compensation pays him $760,000 annually, the school announced Wednesday.
In his rookie season as a head coach, Martin guided the Wildcats to their first NCAA Tournament since 1996. K-State finished 21-12 overall this year, including a third-place finish and 10-6 recrord in the Big 12.
The Wildcats advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. They beat USC before losing to Wisconsin.
Martin’s base salary will be $180,000. He will receive the remainder of the compensation through TV, radio, Internet, shoe and apparels and other services.

Re: Frank Martin

He signed it the right time because it looks like his team may struggle the next couple of years.

Re: Frank Martin

WOW! Makes you wonder what Martin has on the AD. He had one good season based on a couple of one and done players and now the cupboard is almost bare. I think the KSU AD will be regretting that decision in less than two years.

Re: Frank Martin

Is it true K-State hasn't signed one player for 2008?

Re: Frank Martin

I think Bill Walker will end up back in the little apple next year after he comes to his senses. If he comes back, they will be a fringe tournament team next year. Not too bad. From a Cyclone fan perspective it would be nice if he signed an agent but I really like Walker's game. Physically he's put together well, too. Wish some of our guys would hit the weights like that.

I think that is who Walker is without regard to weight training.
