I just watched this game on FSN Rocky Mtn. The Buffs came back on us when Darren Davis got injured, and won late in the game.
Did anyone watch this condensed rebroadcast? It was hosted by a CU announcer, broadcaster, and two players. The players were Josh Johanningmeier and Jon Hessler. Whenever Hessler talked, I wondered, not in a mean way, if he had taken one too many hits to the helmet in his playing days. If you didn't know the reason, you would have thought he was an unintelligent athlete. The broadcaster threw it to him and asked what he remembered about the game and he said he didn't remember anything.
After researching, I found that he was the victim of a hit and run accident in 2003, and was in a coma for weeks. I totally hadn't heard about this, or had forgotten about it. My perception went from wondering why this guy was on a broadcast to thinking it was classy they put him on the broadcast.
Forever trying to find a cure for the Dunning-Kruger Effect.
John Hessler was in a very serious car accident about 7 years ago where he was the victim of a hit and run, and was left to die by the person that hit him. He was in a coma for something like 8 weeks. He is truly lucky to be alive from everything I've heard.
People can say what they want about CU, but their former players have done a great job of banding together to help each other out. The players have organized a yearly golf outing in which they raise money for a former player in need. Last year, they raised money for Hessler's on-going medical expenses.
