If he's in charge of the O-Line, it will go from a perceived "strength" to a weakness. I'm sure Barney is a standout guy and I know he's obviously a strong guy as a cancer survivor, but what he did at ISU (particularly with the offensive line) was aweful.
He took an offensive line that consistently made holes for 1000-yard rushers and turned it to ****. I still can't believe the all-senior ISU offensive line in 2006 couldn't control the line of scrimage against UNI, UNLV, or Kent State...they couldn't move the ball at all on the ground until the emotional Mizzou game to end the season.

I still have no idea why Nebraska ever dumped the tradition of their running game. They consistently churned out Heisman quality running backs and Outland trophy winners on the OL. With other teams moving towards a spread offense and emphasizing the WRs and QBs, I think Nebraska would keep a recruiting advantage for top notch, bruising running backs and offensive linemen who want to eventually play on Sundays. With their supposedly lower-tier running QBs, they seemed to do just fine with guys named Frazier and Crouch while the Fun and Gun was all the rage in the 90s. Now with their west coast offense, they're competing with everyone else for the WRs and QBs. A dumb move, if you ask me.

I'm taking a wait and see approach with Barney. No question he had crappy O-lines at ISU, but going into this year, Nebraska has legitmate depth along the offensive line and has been one of the main strengths of the offense so far in camp.

I'm guessing you guys forgot about how you ran him out of town the first time and then laughed at Iowa State when we hired him to be our offensive coordinator. I guess we'll see who's laughing in a couple of years...

Arguably the worst coach I ever saw... I hated him from the minute he got here. I'm glad the huskers have him to ruin their team now.

I beleive a great deal of the criticism of Barney is exaggerated. The reason his 2006 oline was inefective in the run game was due to DM's stubborn insistince on playing Hicks at Tailback. Nothing against Stevie but he was not good at hitting the hole. Too much dancing. It's funny how when Koch replaced him our running game improved dramatically the last two games. His oline was terrible at pass blocking but that was partly due to no running game and partly due to the fact that they were big and slow, slow, slow. Extremely overated imo. With that said I don't think BC was a great OC, but he wasn't terrible either. I always thought Terry Allen should have been made the OC but I know I'm in the minority in that regard.

This thread is garbage. If you want to see what BC could have done at ISU see the Mizzou game from 06. He was allowed to run his kind of offense and we ran all over Mizzou. Mac basically brought Cotton in and forced him to run Loney's offense.
