Not bad, I'm a little worried about the lack of a serious running threat Saturday night, Nebraska just cann't seem to run between the tackles. Ganz picked up right were he left off last year with the offense and had a nice 30 yard run early in the game. Yeah, he throw 2 INT's, but one was in the 3rd, the other in the 4th.
Defense: Cody Glenn looked like he's played LB'er his entire career. Entire defensive effort was much improved over last year (8 TFL's, 4 sacks, 2 TO's). A troublesome spot was the secondary, too many big yardage plays given up. Coaches and players were all saying the right thing afterwards about how all the mistakes are correctable and that coaches saying they have to coach better...that's something you never heard the coaches say at all last year. Anything less than perfection won't cut it with Pelini and he was perfectly clear about that a couple of times following practice last month.
FG kicker Alex Henry was 4-4 in kicking FG's longer than 44 yards, that's huge right there. Last year's staff had zero confidence in FG's longer than say 30 yards out.
Overall, the performance on Saturday night, espcially on defense, was a general step in the right direction.
They've got 2 games to straighten things out before VA Tech. It's often said that you make the biggest improvement from week 1 to week 2.
I still think this team is capable of going 8-4, 9-3 in the regular season. I was not impressed at all with both Missouri's and Texas Tech's defense espcially after we heard so much about Tech's improvement in defense over the summer.
Sorry to ramble.
TGIF...thank God it's football!!!
