Re: Anybody here been to Waco.....
tailgating has been improving, but still not good. will depend on how many games we've won between now an then. whoever said just pour your alcohol in a cup is right. It's baptist university property, I think it's a decent compromise, hell dancing wasn't allowed on campus until 1995.
A local bar sets up an alcohol tent right across the street from the stadium which gets more traffic than any tailgate (and if we're losing, for most of the game)
game atmosphere depends on how we're doing. People have been conditioned to give up easily. I don't think that will be as much of a problem against ISU though
Don't expect much out of the waco nightlife compared to Dallas, it's there and kicking, but not very big and 95% college students. Good times can be had though.

I would definetelly go since its only an hour and a half away, but its the same day as the UT-OU game here in Dallas, and I would love to check that experience out.
So should I go to a stiff town with a boring tailgate, but watch ISU steamroll Baylor, or should I get steamrolled at the Texas State Fair and watch the game on TV?
Nightlife? You mean the coyotes yelping?
Alcohol? You can have rubbing alcohol for your sore body. This is Baptist church country. Remember the fed govt taking on the separist isolationists with tanks.
Why not tailgate first at one of their fine tumbleweed stateparks.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

Frankly, I don't "get" the desire of so many "great fans" to get rip-roaring drunk before the game. Or the overwhelming desire to scream obscenities. I didn't get it when I was a student, and I don't get it, now.
Chances are those "great fans" aren't really "great fans"; they're just alcoholics.

Cowboys have a cool stadium, more fun gameday atmosphere and tailgating. Little bit longer drive from Dallas, but worth it in my opinion. I watched part of their game last week on TV. Based on the number of empty seats that I saw, it is hard to imagine that parking would be an issue.
Excuse me for a minute while I go look up the attendance for that game. It had to be low.
Edit: Official attendance = 30,633 but it looked like even less than that.

Re: Anybody here been to Waco.....
Ive been to Waco. Pretty good time. Very nice people. Sort of a lame football atmosphere. Good seats all over the place. Easy to get to and park stadium. Not much for tailgating. Usually a good showing from the DFW cyclone fans.

I'll see ya'll out there in October...
I'm looking forward to seeing how the Baptist in Texas respond to my red contacts... Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!!! In Accordance with Prophecy -

Re: Anybody here been to Waco.....
There's 7 of us driving down from Dallas for the Baylor game. We'll be at O'George's probably before hand. We've done both tailgating and the bar scene before a game, and neither is great nor bad.
Honestly, the best time for OU-Tex weekend in Dallas is Thurs and Fri night anyway. The bars are awesome, especially Greenville and Uptown. The best parties, fan fights, and "scenery" are always those two nights.
Otherwise, the traffic into Dallas from North and South and during the weekend is ABYSMAL at best. Plus, I doubt ISU-Baylor is going to be a made for TV game...and I doubt you'll buy a stupidly overpriced ticket to sit in a run down Cotton Bowl for two teams you don't support. So make the trek to Baylor and then come back Saturday night after the game. You'll get the best of both worlds!

Re: Anybody here been to Waco.....
For those in Texas going to the game, did you get your tickets through Baylor or through ISU or somewhere else?

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves Orcs. ~ John Rogers -

Can you get them through ISU if you aren't a season ticket holder or a member of the Cyclone Club?

Yup, after a particular date (which I'm sure has already past... it was like early August or mid August... whenever single game tickets went on sale I think)

As a Baylor fan told me.... NEVER buy tickets prior to going to the game.
Last time I went this guy outside the stadium sold me two tickets for 10 bucks total... then said there wont be anyone here.... sit where you want.
We sat right in the ISU section. LOTS of empty seats.
