Anybody here been to Waco.....
.....for a football game? I am contemplating going to the ISU-Baylor game, but some co-workers said the tailgating is horrible. One guy said that no alcohol is allowed in the lots, and they enforce it hard. Also, how is Waco nightlife?
I would definetelly go since its only an hour and a half away, but its the same day as the UT-OU game here in Dallas, and I would love to check that experience out.
So should I go to a stiff town with a boring tailgate, but watch ISU steamroll Baylor, or should I get steamrolled at the Texas State Fair and watch the game on TV?

I went to Baylor for both football and basketball games. I would skip it if I were you. Parking at the football game is a nightmare....we ended up missing most of the first quarter. Game atmosphere is nothing special. I would skip it and head up to the OSU game instead. Cowboys have a cool stadium, more fun gameday atmosphere and tailgating. Little bit longer drive from Dallas, but worth it in my opinion.

Re: Anybody here been to Waco.....
We are also contemplating the trip to Baylor. But, that's one hell of a road trip. Not sure it is worth it yet. Lubbock was friggin awesome once we got there, but the trip there and back sucked.
I talked to a guy from Baylor last time they were here, and he also mentioned that tailgating wasn't the greatest--said ISU was pretty cool. He said they do have a non-alcohol policy, but it isn't strictly enforced (alcohol is poured into a cup out of sight and no one asks questions). He also mentioned that he hates the Aggies.

Meeting some friends from Kansas.
Thanks for the advice! Now I won't feel so bad for skipping the game!

Thanks for the advice! Now I won't feel so bad for skipping the game! No problem. I've also been to OU, Texas and A&M. A&M was a blast. The stadium, game, etc. Definitely need to go next year if you can. OU and Texas were pretty lame.....although I love Sixth Street in Austin.

Re: Anybody here been to Waco.....
I went to Baylor in 1999 or 2000 (whenever we played down there). It wasn't a bad game atmosphere, very laid back. If you just want to watch the game it isn't bad at all, but if you want to tailgate or have some nightlife, that might be a different story.

I was the guest of some guy named David last time. His house caught on fire. I think that was also around the last time Baylor football was in any way relevant.

Well, what is your priority...getting steamrolled drunk, or supporting ISU football??? If getting plastered is your priority, don't go to Waco. If you enjoy supporting the Cyclones, go to Waco. It is possible to enjoy college football without being drunk, especially on a beautiful fall day.

Yeah, I was there, too! There was a lot of ruckus going on outside...must have been the neighbors having a party.

The football stadium is off campus . . south along interstate 35 (and then to the west) . . once you fight all the truck traffic you'll arrive. The fans are obnoxious from the get go . . the younger fans enjoy riddiculing you throughout the game especially if they are winning. But go support the Clones . . they'll need it once the homer refs take over.

Re: Anybody here been to Waco.....
I made the drive down there a few years ago - long trip! Didn't hang around for the nightlife, though. I remember it was just a year or two ago that one of their football assitance coaches lost his job for peeing all over the bar at some Waco establishment late one night after a game.
