You haven't actually seen the Anderson Football Complex if you think ISU's facilities are better. It has all the new training and workout facilities that the NFL has. And everything is very high-tech. It's a pretty impressive facility. Plus it's football only. But they could use a new indoor facility, the current one is over 20 years old
The game day atmosphere has sucked for years, but it's improved greatly over the last year. I guess it helps to win. You have to remember KU has never been to bowl games in consecutive years...in the history of the school. It's hard to have a following when you have never had two good years in a row.
They are currently building new bball practice facility right next to Allen and spending tons on living facilities for the athletes. Plus I've heard rumors a track/soccer facility is next so they can yank the track out of Memorial and lower the field (they really need to do that bad). KU is starting to spend a lot of money on sports and every year they move up the Big 12 ladder in revenue. I think in the next 5 years there will be a lot of changes. I guess that is what it has come to in college sports now. I would like to see the NCAA put a limit on spending, but that probably won't happen.

If ISU in the middle of nowhere, so is Lawrence, KS.

Lawrence is 25-30 minutes from Kansas City. But if you're from either coasts then it is in the middle of nowhere. Because people from the coast think the entire midwest is in the middle of nowhere.

I was at the KU game in the fall of 05. First visit to their campus and to Lawrence. I walked away totally unimpressed. Fans were lame, tailgating was non-existent. Stadium was a joke, as was the band. I couldn't believe they get anybody to go there for anything. I remember leaving just thinking to myself "Really? We lost to these guys?" Maybe I am just strange or a homer but I left that campus thinking "this place sucks".
In fairness, I have been to games at the following other places and would rank all well ahead of KU:
Texas
Missouri
Colorado
Iowa
Minnesota even
Those are places I have been to games and campus. As for school campus, I would definitely put Notre Dame, OSU, Michigan, Wyoming,Utah,BYU, and Colorado State ahead of KU. They may succeed at basketball, but I just don't see the KU magic.

most of the big xii is in the middle of nowhere, ames is no worse than iowa city, lincoln, stillwater, columbia, norman, etc, etc, etc.
I went to Lubbock last year, now THAT is in the middle of nowhere, yet they are a top ten team right now!

Lubbock and Manhattan are on an Island in the middle of cattle drive country.
Although everything about football at Kansas is lame, (maybe a little jealousy), I do have to give props to Allen Fieldhouse. You are completely correct that it is little more than vets, but what is really cool is the game time atmosphere. It is very hoosiers - esque.
and if you're hopping around any sites this week the "boo" label they give us is completely bogus and hypocritical. Every place boo's, none that I've been to more than any other. I guess if that's the worst they have on us, it's not too bad.

What I really like is the way things are segmented. The heavy drinkers have their areas, and there are plenty of places for families to come and enjoy the day. When the place gets finished, and they bowl in the South end, it is going to be amazing.
I always love pulling into Trice. Easily one of my favorite places on Earth, and a big reason why I moved back to Iowa. Hard to beat a football Saturday in Ames. Wonderful people, good eating and drinking, and hopefully some good football again real soon!!
