BCS Championship=BIG XII Showdown?
I am far from an expert or even a novice at fully understanding the BCS system.
But....
Is it possible for 2 teams from the same conference to be sent to the national championship game?
As it stands now.
1. Alabama
2. Texas Tech
3. Texas
4. Florida
5. Oklahoma
Texas Tech Has already played Texas so both have the chance to finish the season undefeated and presumably not fall in the ranks from current positions.
Florida has to play 2 ranked opponents before reaching the SEC championship against Bama. If in the course of one of those games Florida lost and then managed to knock off Alabama in the SEC championship that could very well put the Big XII 1 and 2 in the BCS standings. Perhaps even 3.
Since all 3 big 12 teams are in the same devision they will not knock each other out in the championship game. Texas Tech does have to play Oklahoma but that still leaves potential for a 1-2 finish as Oklahoma may jump up into the 2 or 3 spot with that upset.
Someone give me insight. can this happen? Does the championship have to be between the 1 and 2 in the BCS standings? Is it a huge stretch? I know this all hinges on Bama losing...But after the close call against LSU they don't look invincible. I would love to see an all Big 12 national championship even though it is all south teams, but I could see that not being allowed.

Possible, but I think improbable.

If Florida beats Alabama, I have feeling that they will jump Texas.

Re: BCS Championship=BIG XII Showdown?
If ever there was a year it could happen, I believe this is the year. Obviously there would need to be some key losses, but it's not out of the question.

I believe there is a rule saying that you must win your conference to be in the NC game. Pretty sure that's what i heard on tv and radio over the weekend. anyone?

IMO, we saw the NC game when OU played TX. I still think that is a possibility. Along with TX and TT.

Re: BCS Championship=BIG XII Showdown?
Obviously the only way that could happen for the Big 12 is Texas Tech-Texas. If they both win out, the only teams keeping it from happening are Florida and Alabama. If those two both somehow lose one more, I'd say it's likely.

I know it's a stretch but I'm in the I want it to happen mindset

I don't think I'm alone when I say I'd like to see more and more planets fall under the ruthless domination of our solar system. -
Re: BCS Championship=BIG XII Showdown?
My understanding has been that the 1 and 2 in the BCS standings at the end of the year will play in the NC regardless. However, it is unlikely voters would let a team that didn't win their conference be a 2. For it to happen the SEC would have to play out so that there is not a one loss or undefeated SEC champion and either TT or Oklahoma winning out along with Texas winning out, which is possible but not extremely likely. Re: BCS Championship=BIG XII Showdown?
Texas will lose to A&M, TT will lose to OU, OU will lose to Missouri in the Big 12 championship. Florida will lose to Florida St. and Alabama will lose to Florida. It will set up nicely for Utah vs. Bosie St in the BCS championship game.

I have seen this rule come up on this board several times over the last month or so in discussions about an all Big 12 NC. However, I have never seen anybody provide an official source for this. It was my belief that the title game matched the #1 and #2 teams in the BCS rankings, period. It would seem doubtful that this would ever be two teams from the same conference, but it isn't impossible as we see now.
Does anybody have a link to anything official where it says that a team must win their conference to go to the title game?

Re: BCS Championship=BIG XII Showdown?
Well a quick search to find the BCS selection rules yielded me this. FOX Sports on MSN - BCSFootball - BCS Selection Procedures
I didn't read through all the details, but rule one very simply was the #1 and #2 teams will play for the title. If anybody else notices anything else in there about requiring teams to win their conference, let me know.
As for the voters jumping Florida over Texas to prevent an all Big 12 final, remember that only the Coaches Poll counts toward the BCS, and that is only 1/3 of the total BCS score.
