Pretty nice payday for him too. Doubled his salary...has to be one the highest paid coordinators at $900K/year.

Re: UT names Mack Brown's future replacement

The word from the 40 Acres:

    - If UT didn't lock Muschamp up asap he would have been a head coach somewhere else next year.

    - Mack has 6 years left on his contract, but a lot of people suspect that the 09 season will be his last as head coach, before he takes over as AD. This is even more likely if UT pulls out another national title this year or next.

I don't think it was a slight to GC at all either, but it does make me wonder if "the OSU coach" did hear something to the effect that Gene would have stayed at UT had he known a situation like this would play out.

All hypothtical and none of it matters because Chizik is in Ames and working damn hard to right the ship.

If this is true, maybe we should go get him to be our headcoach-in-wait. He is a little younger then Gene. Do you think he would wait that long?

Re: UT names Mack Brown's future replacement

This is a very shocking story, I think. I will admit on here (and you can hold me to it) that I am a big Chizik fan...we are lucky to have him even though we are going through a tough year. I have confidence things will pick up. It is just odd because two seasons ago Chizik was the hot name, and then it is feeling like he traded places with Muschamp in that sense. It feels like UT is jumping the gun a little bit, or...Muschamp is just that much better. I'm almost as disturbed as I was when KSU decided to let Prince go with 3 more games left in the season.

What's the big deal? I'm guessing this happened now because Mack has given the word that he's ready to move up to AD...

Well, when you put it that way...

Yeah, I guess what I was thinking was that Mack would be around for a whlie longer (3-4 years), but your view makes more sense.

Re: UT names Mack Brown's future replacement

I think Mack Brown wants to make sure there is continuity with the staff and recruiting when he does retire from coaching. He certainly wants to avoid having Texas football look like Michigan 2008 football in his first year as AD.
Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

    I thought he killed himself?
There are not many crowds or places in the country that have a better impact on the game than at Iowa State. The Cyclone fans are truly a sixth man. The place is so loud and always a fantastic crowd." - Former Kansas and current North Carolina head coach Roy Williams

KState should have done this with Bret Bielema and they could have avoided the Ron Prince experiment.

You're assuming Bret Bielema would have been better.

Right. There is a very solid chance that Bielema caught lightning in a bottle, and was a one-year wonder.
