3 Big XII teams in BCS is unlikely but NOT impossible
This scenario:
Texas Tech beats OU & Alabama loses, moving TT to #1.
Texas beats A&M and moves to #2.
Florida loses and drops a few spots.
Missouri upsets Texas Tech in the Big XII title game and 12-1 Texas Tech drops to #2.
In that case the NC game would be Texas vs. Texas Tech AND Missouri would go to a BCS bowl as the Big XII champion.
The rules state no more than 2 teams per conference. But they also state #1 & #2 must meet in the title game AND that the conference champion must get an automatic BCS bid. The latter two rules trump the "no more than 2 teams per conference" rule. Highly unlikely....but not impossible.
Confirmation from the BCS Chairman: Big 12 could get three BCS bids - Los Angeles Times Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good. Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better. Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step. My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all. -
Re: 3 Big XII teams in BCS is unlikely but NOT impossible
I think if Tech lost to Missouri they would probably drop more than to 2.

Re: 3 Big XII teams in BCS is unlikely but NOT impossible
TT would drop down more than 1 spot, but I still think its interesting. That would be so cool though.
Make sure you don't call the charge. But make sure you call the foul on the scrum.... -
Re: 3 Big XII teams in BCS is unlikely but NOT impossible
My understanding of this is that Missouri would get the shaft, because BCS NC has to have 1 vs 2, but the rule about 2 conference teams takes prescidence over the conference champion rule.

Re: 3 Big XII teams in BCS is unlikely but NOT impossible
I think if TT loses they will drop more than one spot and that the BCS and media all love USC and Florida and will do whatever they can to get those two into the NC. Even if it means finding ways around the rules.
I hope what you suggest would come true... but don't think "they" will let it happen!

I think a big USC win would ruin that scenario...

Re: 3 Big XII teams in BCS is unlikely but NOT impossible
The BCS commissioner has admitted it could happen:
Bowl Championship Series commissioners recently had to mediate a conflict in their own rule book that could affect USC's bowl plans.
BCS rules stipulate that no more than two schools from one conference can receive BCS bowl bids, yet rules also state that conference champions must receive an automatic bid and that No. 1 and No. 2 in the BCS standings must meet in the title game. -

Whatever happens, I'll just be happy if the Little 11 teams get stomped in BCS games. Boy would I love that.

Read it. Learn it. Love it. No matter how much you want to dream it, there will NOT be three Big XII teams in the BCS this year.
