Re: I feel sorry for Missouri
As a Jayhawk, I hate Mizzou. But That football team has the potential to be very good for years. There's lots of in-state talent and they are the only game in town. They have a decent budget, very good facilities and if the football team keeps winning the other sports will come. Plus who cares about the other sports. I know ISU has a great following in wrestling, but the average national person doesn't care about a sport a lot of schools don't even have. I wouldn't call the basketball program stagnate. They just beat USC and should have beaten Xavier if they could make a free throw. Xavier turned around and beat Memphis. I think Missouri will be better than people think in bball this year...and that sucks.

Re: I feel sorry for Missouri
I think you're throwing rocks at glass windows.
Saying ISU has more total championships is like saying Harvard has more in Bad Mitten.
Fact of the matter, is let's quit worrying about everybody else and what the past is and concentrate on the future.

Re: I feel sorry for Missouri
I only feel sorry for Missouri because they didn't make it to a BCS game last year, and they deserved it more than Kansas. It's nice being successful in other sports besides football and men's bb, but those two sports do pay the bills, so I would like to have Missouri's success in football. If they had an AD who was worth a crap, he would make sure the other programs succeed in the wake of whsports.at their football team has done the last couple of years.

Re: I feel sorry for Missouri
I could care less about the other sports. Sounds bad I suppose, but it's true. If we were top 25 in football and basketball year in year out, we could be winless in every other sport, and it wouldn't bother me...

Re: I feel sorry for Missouri
So, we can't look at the future, all we can do is look at the resent past- let's say the past 10 years. Missouri has had marginal success in men's basketball and football, but so have we. Between football and MBB, Missouri has won two divisional titles. Between football and MBB, ISU has won 1 divisional title and 3 conference titles. I know some are going to argue about our divisional title, we have it- I've seen it. No it is not as good as having an outright title, but be thankful we have what we have.
In other sports ISU has had far more success than Missouri. We have won 3 WBB titles, a gymnastics title, and two wrestling titles- all in the past ten years. Missouri has won only 4 Big 12 titles in its history. Though unlikely, I can foresee possibly three new conference titles and possibly a national title this year for ISU. Our MBB team is improving and will be a very good team in the near future, I feel the same way about our football team too.
I still say I would not trade places with Missouri.

like I said...I would trade all the marginal sports to be winning now in BBall/football.

Re: I feel sorry for Missouri
I agree. Unless it's a national title in Football or Basketball I don't really care.

Their basketball program is right where we are, too.
Is this a trick question? That's what I thought too. No offense but I don't care about Men's Gymnastics championships in the 1970s. We have the worst football team in the conference right now and one of the worst basketball teams over the last few years.
Honestly this thread is embarrassing.

I'm sorry but the argument dies for me there.

They have only 3 Big12 titles which is the fewest in the Big12 and have only 2 national titles in the school's history which ranks 10th among the Big 12 schools. Aside from their recent success in football which has resulted in two north titles (no conference titles and no BCS appearances), they are among the worst in the Big12 in almost every sport.
For comparison, ISU ranks 6th in the Big12 for most national titles at 13 (Nebraska ranks 5th!) and has won 3 conference titles in three years for a total of 10 conference titles.
So if you could, would you trade with Missouri to have a semi-successful football program and no success anywhere else? I, for one, would rather be Cyclone with the number two wrestling team in the nation, a top25+ women’s basketball team, and a promising outlook for our men’s basketball, gymnastics, and hope for the future for football, volleyball, and Cross Country.
1000th Post!!!! Yippee!! Some hoped that this day would never come, but I’m still here and not banned.
I would trade all the marginal sports...your soul and my soul to be able to win the Cotten Bowl.

Football and mens basketball for me!

Re: I feel sorry for Missouri
I would trade in a heart beat.
I think Mizzou has the potential to a Power, not only in the North, but they could compete with South better than any team in the North.
I would take an above average Football team with crappy side sports, any day compared to a well below average Football team with average side sports.

Honestly this thread is embarrassing. I agree that this is embarrassing. It seems that we will try any way possible to prop ourselves up to feel better about ourselves after a dismal football season.
