It's tough to feel sorry for someone that has the Party Cove.

Honestly this thread is embarrassing. Our most recent national title was in '87 and it was wrestling, Missouri's most recent national title was in the '50s and it was indoor track.
Seriously, I would have to question how loyal of Cyclone fans some of you are that all you care about is MBB and football. You can't be happy that we are having success in other sports, you can't even be happy that we have had success in basketball.
I would like as much as anyone to be successful in MBB and football right now, but we aren't (as least not in football), so I'll content myself on the success we are having in other programs and continue to support ISU in hopes of better days.
Personally, I think you all like the idea of being the worst athletic program in the Big12. You have so conditioned yourselves to think "we are Iowa State, we are so bad" that you can't even recognize success when it is right in front of you. -

As somebody who grew up a Mizzou fan I can tell you most Mizzou fans don't even realize ISU is in their conference. I havn't been to the new basketball area for Mizzou but over-all they have much better facilities than ISU has. Until I started reading this board a couple years ago I'd never heard of Johnny Orr. Football coaches are the same way, I'd never heard of whoever was before Mac before getting on here. I didn't even know Mizzou and ISU had a rivalry trophy until I started playing NCAA football on the PS2.

First though, kudos for calling the fanhood into question. Always a good way to try and make a point.
I am happy that we are having success in other sports. Good to the WBB players, the CC runners, the wrestlers. I like to read that they are having success and competing at a high level. I'm just not a big wrestling or WBB fan. It's the same reason that I wouldn't care if we had a really good drama program. I don't really watch theater productions much so I could care less if we're good at them.
If you look at my entertainment budget I would say that I spend roughly 1/2 to 3/4 of my entertainment dollar on ISU athletics. Why would I like the idea that we have the worst team in the Big 12? Honestly, try and explain that to me. Why would anybody on this board want anything less than absolute success for ISU in any sport. I am very happy with the success that we've had in basketball. That was also 2 coaches ago. When I bought my tickets this year it wasn't to watch Fizer and Tinsley. It was to watch Brackins and Garrett and I hope they have a lot of success.
However what is embarrassing to me is somebody coming on here and saying "Well at least we aren't Mizzou!" when they are having a FB season better than any we've had in our history since what... 1912 or whatever?

It would make since that you would not know our previous coaches if you don't even know what trophies Missouri is playing for. Honestly, I can't really say that I've heard of any of Missouri's previous coaches either. My entire purpose for this thread was to give Cyclone fans some hope after a bad season while pointing out some positive facts about our athletic program, but it seems like most of the Cyclone fans on here would rather wallow in self pity. -

Most young ISU fans don't know who coached before McCarney either, let alone who coached before Pinkel at Missouri. :)
As for them not knowing ISU is in the Big 12, that's just not a real Missouri football fan (i.e. fairweather, ignorant, or both). I would wager that any Tiger fan who knows their football at least knows the other 11 teams in the conference.

I only feel sorry for Missouri because their childrens' fathers are also their brothers.

Making yourself feel better by belittling a competitor is not a good way to do things. You had the right idea until you brought Missouri into the discussion.

Re: I feel sorry for Missouri
When it comes to football, I don't feel sorry for Missouri. The UofM is in a state double the size of Iowa and is the only major 1A school in the state with decent high school talent in the St. Louis and Kansas City areas.
Time will tell if the program continues their recent success once Chase Daniels graduates or if they caught lighting in a bottle because Chase has been lights out good.

Re: I feel sorry for Missouri
Let's see. In football, won the north the last 2 seasons. 12-2 vs the North the last 3 years. Mens basketball beats USC yesterday with 6 freshmen playing meaningful minutes. Wrestling ranked 5th in the country. Baseball has settled in as a top 20 team for the last 3 or 4 years. Mens swimming & diving team is ranked in the top 25. Womens soccer just won the Big XII 2 weeks ago. The womens gymnastic team is ranked in the top 25. Womens swimming & diving team is in the top 20. Our Academic progress rate is tops in the conference and the highest among public universities in the nation. We're getting by.
