TTU to expand stadium?
The first step in Myers' plan will be extending the stadium to 61,000 by the middle of the 2009 season. Those seats should be finished and ready by the time Texas A&M visits on Oct. 24.
Myers told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal that the additional seats could mean $1 million to $1.5 million in extra revenue this season for the Red Raiders' athletic department. "It means a lot to our budget," Myers told the Avalanche-Journal. "It could be the difference of us finishing in the red or the black. We're always pretty close. We're either $100,000 or $200,000 in the red or $100,000 or $200,000 in the black, or we're pretty even." Myers expects the Red Raiders could regularly fill those 61,000 seats for their biggest games -- and maybe attract even more.

I didn't believe it at first either, but I'm moving to Lubbock in the fall. I bet there's close to a million people within 2 hours, and what the hell else are you going to do in west texas (kinda like iowa )?
With continued success, I don't think it will be a problem consistently filling 80K+

With continued success, I don't think it will be a problem consistently filling 80K+ To raise capacity by 30,000 when they weren't filling the stadium consistently before this year seems like a stretch. They're talking about adding more seats to Jones than there are people that actually show up at Floyd Casey... In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection. -

Just saying the people are there to support it longterm.
And we averaged 35K last year. Thank you very much ;) Posted via Mobile Device -

I see your point, and it's probably right, but I would have to imagine a lot of those people also have pretty dead set allegiances to UT or A&M. Maybe someday they can draw that much, but it will be awhile.

Really? Never? That is pretty impressive. I wonder how many schools can say that.

Re: TTU to expand stadium?
If they plan on doing that, they might want to keep up better relations with the coach that has gotten them to that point. Just a thought...

The formula that gets thrown around here is just win, then the fans will come, then expand. If that actually holds true, TTU is a step ahead of us on that process.
